hot weather - window tint percent
Living in south florida with my BMW 330i and it currently has minimal tint - just the standard factory tint, time to darken it
My goal is to keep the interior cool while it is in the sun and also get that nice clean tint look. I dont want it to be too dark so that nighttime visibility is tough, nor do I want to be harassed by the cops. let me know what you think, even if your car is not in sfl Thanks |

You just need to get a tint with good heat rejection. Cheap dark tint doesnt do much besides look different.

I would go with 20% ceramic tint. Since you are in Florida, I would also look at the clear tint that you can get put on your windshield and that should really help with heat rejection.

You can play with different film colors with higher heat reflectivity... but by doing that i feel it can look tacky. Neutral black is the best looking and still provides a purpose.
My parents and I have used Snaptint.com for all of our vehicles and its quality film. Neutral black - 35% on the two front windows, 20% rear windows. 35% is just light enough to keep the police off your back, and just dark enough to provide you with a little privacy and sun protection. And obviously, keeping 99% of UV rays off the interior. |

Here is a list of specs for FormulaOne tint:
http://www.formulaone.com/pdf/FormulaOneSpecSheet.pdf Here is a list of specs for 3M tint: http://solutions.3m.com/wps/portal/3...ts/Automotive/ These are just 2 examples. I,Personally, have 20% 3M Color stable all the way around, with 70% 3M crystalline on the windshield... Everyone has their opinion on which brand to use, but for you, I would look for a good heat rejection % if that is your main priority, then choose a darkness. and yes, it is Clemson. I graduated from there. |

I'm in Naples, FL and I've got 30% all around. No issues at night.
Had 35% on my previous BMW but just felt like it wasn't dark enough.

The tint doesn't need to be dark to keep out heat &c. Look into Llumar Air Blue 80.
Otherwise I'd agree 35% is a good place to stop.

I have 5% on my back windows, it darkens up the whole car. At night it makes the front windows look done

I'm pretty torn between 20% and 35%... I would do it on all side and back windows, I want the even look dont want to mix/match at all. but I would do the rear windshield darker, but wondering the overall benefit of it - just to keep the dark look and privacy? further the heat reduction?
Do you guys keep the front windshield factory? or do like a 50% tint on it? |

I’m basically in agreement with everyone above, any high quality film between 20-35% will do what you want and look great. Once you get under 20, IMO it becomes a cop magnate and seriously hampers visibility at night. I’ve been in a car with 10% all around, and it’s probably unsafe to be honest. My car has 35% 3M ceramic, and I’m quite happy with it. Down the road I may go a bit darker, but I’m satisfied for the time being.

I'd stop by a local reputable tint shop and talk with them about your goals; there's definitely a difference in blocking the visible spectrum and the IR spectrum.
