Waterpump kicking on after shutdown

I have a 335i n54 model year 2010, I understand that the water pump in our motors are electrical and apparently they run after the car is shut off to cool down the turbochargers. My waterpump never use to be constantly on after shutting off the car, but recently it just started to happen (stay on after the car is shut off and door is locked) and now it drains the battery to the point where it runs dead. I still see voltage around 5-9v with a multimeter but not enough for the electronics to work at all. Anyone ever deal with this problem?

Have you checked you have enough coolant?

would the water level direct the pump to kick on? I haven't checked water level in some time but it shouldn't drop due to it being a closed pressure system unless i have a leak =[

Maybe it's just hotter outside and it feels the need to run the pump. The water pump on my car always stays on for a little bit after shutting the car off but never to the point were it would kill the battery, maybe the problem is with the battery

Likely your pcv heater or another short. Read 3000GT MR's post in this thread. http://www.e90post.com/forums/showth...water+pump+pcv

Possibly symptoms of your water pump going out, how many miles on the car?

A battery going dead also tends to do wonky things to the car, but whether the pump is the cause or the effect of the dead battery would be tough to tell.

The water level does drop on this vehicle despite not having leaks. You should definitely check.

After you check that I would look into that thread from 3000GT
