BOV and reliability. Options?
So just installed a dci yesterday and I realized how much I missed the sound of turbo spool. Need more boost! Next step a tune, most likely a jb4. However, it seems that our stock CP is garbage and should be replaced. With some of these deals these vendors are having with fmic and cp combo, I figure might as well take advantage. I thought I was set on just forge dv's and over the whole "pshh" sound, but after hearing the turbo spool, I realized I'm not. It woke the kid in me
So l've decided I want the loudest bov there is. However, need something reliable at the same time. The tial seems popular but is a little too reserved for me. I used to run an hks on my wrx and liked the whistle sound, but i remember people used to call the sound "cute". I like the synapse, but doesn't seem like any vendors carry anymore. Reliability issue? How does the AA bov sound like. reliability? Only heard on video. Maybe someone that has heard in real life can write up a comparison. So what other options do I have? I'm not looking to do any custom work so something that has an accompanying CP.

I have the AA CP on my E92 335i and our 07 E90 and it's very audible but not very loud. I'm not very familiar with other BOVs...I typically run Tials and I believe they're louder than my AA BOVs.

Ah good to know. How much psi are you pushing out. Any problems with leaks?

I'm peaking around 19psi on both cars...both are FBO and RBs are going in the E92 this week so that will probably go up a tad. I have HKS BOVs on my 300 and they are much much louder but it has big turbos and 2.5 intake/charge piping so there is considerably more flow.

I've had that HKS for about 3 years now. around 16 psi. Has performed flawless and never skipped a beat once. I even bought it used off of someone that had it for two years.

I've had a synapse valve for about a year, works great and the sound is perfect IMO. I love the response this valve has, makes the throttle noticeably snappier. I've read about the helper spring breaking in them, but mines been good so far, knock on wood lol. Even then, you can just take the helper spring out and tighten the main one a smidge.
If you want LOUD get the HKS no question. But there's a reason 650+ hp cars run 2 of them, they don't flow as well as the rest. All that noise is the sound of air struggling to get out. A perfect bov in a perfect world would be dead quiet with near infinite flow, and and instantaneous response. |

i originally wanted the synapse but some vendors stopped selling them because they were having problems so i ended up with the hks. its been cool though sometimes i get some flutter. and i never saw the point of getting a quiet bov like the tial. if u want quiet why not get diverter valves?

Turbosmart supersonic BOV are the loudest I've heard in person. They are also extremely reliable though I perfer the race port line. I will likely run a raceport on my 135 car. I currently run a Tial on my daily as @tiago@VRSF gave me a good package deal.

Jeff, what's your take on the turbosmart? Louder than hks? Reliable? Love to vendor input.
