OT: Visiting Detroit this weekend...what to do?

I'm going to the Bears/Lions game on Sunday but will be going to Detroit on Friday. Any suggestions for bars/restaurants and anything else to do while I'm there?

That should be quite the slugfest on Sunday. Maybe Stafford and Cutler can hangout together on the bench and talk about how they both make 8 figures to be poster boys for franchises that both need major overhauls.

Upset lions fan aside, downtown Detroit is a great city. Few places I would recommend checking out:
- Cliff Bells - live jazz, decent food and drinks. Wife and I love going here.
- Any of the three casinos: Motorcity, Greektown, MGM
- Food in Greektown is awesome. Pegasus gets my vote handsdown.
- If you are up for mexican, Mexicantown on the west side is good. Just keep your head up, and park in their parking lots. Taqueria Mi Pueblo is a solid option.
- Cult like following bbq fare: Slows BBQ. This is across the street from our infamous abandoned Michigan Central train station. Expect a 2 hour wait. There are bars all around to drink while you get hungry.
- May sound lame, but the Detroit Institute of Arts is a very well respected museum. Some unbelievable pieces and exhibits.
- Ford River Rouge tour is supposed to be cool, I have not been yet. This would be south of downtown.
- For great views, try the semi swanky Coach Insignia bar/restaurant at the top of the Ren Cen. Food is meh and pricey, but the view is awesome at night from the bar.
- Hockeytown Cafe across from Comerica Park and Ford Field is a good watering hole with a lot of memorabilia. Think of it as a hockey version of a Hard Rock.

Heads up, I believe the Detroit Marathon is this weekend... so it's going to be organized chaos one morning with roads shutdown.

Thanks, man. I'm excited to visit Detroit.

The Detroit Institute of Art was on my list of things to do.

I'm definitely gonna make sure we hit up a restaurant in Greektown.

We're staying in Detroit Friday night and then staying in the suburbs Saturday so we'll be driving from there to the game. When we went to a Lions game last year, I think the marathon was going on and I don't think it was terrible traffic-wise.

Nice on the DIA and Greektown. I would recommend Pegasus, get the lamb shank special, it's heavenly.

Good to hear. Traffic is really dependent on how much BS construction we have going on. I had assumed you were staying downtown Saturday night in which case Sunday morning might be a tad chaotic with the run.

If you are anywhere near Woodward on Saturday night, be sure to take a lap with your friends. Despite it getting colder, should still be some decent rides out. I occasionally throw my son or daughter in the car and do a lap, sometimes there are some great classic cars out cruising.

I just checked out Pegasus and that'll probably be where we go to dinner Friday night.

We won't be able to check out Woodward because we'll be at my girlfriend's family's place in the 'burbs and she's not all that in to cars. Maybe I can convince her though...

Detroit itself was just "meh". We did lunch in greektown rather than dinner the night before. I forget the restaurant we went to, but it was good. We also checked out the Greektown Casino. It was weird how empty the streets were on a Saturday morning/afternoon. It was pretty empty Saturday night after the Red Wings game as well.

The game was a lot of fun though. Both teams kind of looked like crap but it was close.
