They need to sell 2 million units worldwide in order to have the economy of scale to continue as an independent company. That's why.

Ya, I think it's lame as well, but that's the reality with all the regulations, mpg requirements, etc. and associated costs.

Y did they say they need the 3 GT to compete with the A4 avant? I thought the current E91 competes with the avant? So now they are going to have the wagon and a raised, taller GT version?

BMW designers must hate their job because over the last 8 years they have been thinking of ways to get themselves fired.

X6 - 5 series GT and now the 3 series GT, I reckon they've cracked it.
