Anyone else have throw out bearing issues...
I can hear the damn thing now..and my tech noticed it too. Looks like I am back in the shop after the next track event. Ugh.

Whats the sound of it? Do you hear with when depressing clutch or
letting of of it in neutral. I have a sound, but it might just be flywheel chatter

Just sitting there..not touching the clutch..just revving the car with cluch disengaged..you can hear it vibrate when the revs are decreasing.

When you rev in Neutral without it depressed does it
get louder and then just sitting there do you get a good bit of chatter?

27K miles. Of those...about 12 were track days...I have never taken my car to the drags..and never intend to. I have never slipped the clutch either.

I can hear the chatter on the outside and inside of my car when sitting
in neutral over my exhaust. Does not just sound like flywheel either. I will try and get a sound clip up tomorrow

I haven't had this problem on the E46, but I had it on my other car. It was the most annoying thing, but after years of driving with it being problematic, I just lived with it.

BMW had T/O issues since the E36 days, E46's didn't fair any better. Same goes for the clutch and pressure plate. Harold |

I have this issue too. Took it to the dealership twice. The first time they replaced the throw out bearing, but the sound didn't go away. After the fix, though, the clutch seemed to engage faster. Took it back to the dealership again to fix the noise and this time they said it's normal. I'm not sure what's the root cause of this chattering. The sound is unbearably annoying!

My car is about to turn over 29k, with no track days or anything.
Today I was getting a good bits of vibrations sitting at idle and the sound is pretty loud. I will go outside and get some sounds clips tonight

Noob question here guys, what is a throw out bearing?
I ask because I get rattling noises, but only once in a while, when I start moving in first gear and don't give much throttle while declutching. Thanks for answering!

To dumb it down a bit (no offense)...
In short, your clutch pedal operates a lever arm that is attached to a donut-shaped piece called a throw out bearing. One side is a solid plate the other side has a face that spins. When you press the clutch pedal the lever jams the throw out bearing into the clutch pressure plate, activating the mechanism to remove pressure from the clutch disc thereby disengaging the engine from the transmission. The clutch pressure plate is always spinning with the engine, so that's why the t/o bearing has a spinning face. When either the pressure plate mechanism or the t/o bearing has wear or play you can experience noise.

Thank you Kaleb! but you didn't dumb it down enough........ha ha J/K.
I get it, it's related to the transmission. So you think it's likely I have this problem, by my earlier explanation?
