The E92 with underseat subs is 50x better than the awful early E90s with only the 3 inch mid and nothing else: But its still laughably bad..
ok cool no ive neva been a massive fan of going mad with sound ive normally got someone in the car so im always talking lol i always go for the exterior looks first and performance before sounds lol but its interesting to find out, how much does it cost to change every speaker to the alpine then?

the biggest (and only tbh) thing that annoys me about the alpine upgrade is that on start up it takes a while to turn on.. very very occasionally it will actually cut out i.e. no amplification mid journey.. usually when it's really cold, i have no idea why but it's so rare (once a quarter) i just don't bother with it.

What is the technical reason for the amplification not kicking in straight away with the ignition?

On the whole though, great system.. and for the price i got it at (forum group buy) an absolute steal! Would do it again in a heart beat.

Cheers

Only speculation here but on my aftermarket system when it was already powered and you went to say, start the car engine it would send a load of noise through the speakers which I'm sure was damaging them. Could be that there's a deliberate delay on startup to avoid this?

i suspect it's either due to

a) amp not being the best it could be and not having fancy gizmos etc to turn it on by itself / only turning on when it receives signal from the head unit

b) a protection mechanism as suggested above

just a guess, nothing big though... at least it's consistent @ 1 - 2 seconds

yea i guess its just the time it takes for the amp to kick in! the rear speakers turn on straight away and then the fronts turn on around a second laters! rears are still connected to the HU so thats what i think it is! take a second for the amp to turn on is all!

never experienced it cutting out on me though...

it is a very impressive system for the monies!

Not interested in upgrading my hifi setup but before I realised my car had the hifi setup I'd have been willing to pay £5-600...

yea 500 would be a good price but would want to see specs etc of what would be included, the power the amp would supply to the speaker sets etc + fitting

Sorry to hijack but i thought it'd be better than starting a new thread (seems all the audio guys are in here)

I'd be interested in having a sub in the boot of my e91 (plenty of room). I'm assuming i'd need to fit some kind of aftermarket harness + the sub and amp. Would i need a recode?

To answer the Q above, i'd pay £500 if it gave a reasonable increase in sound quality and bass.

Think it could get down to £575. Still that's replacement mid, tweeter and pair of underseat subs, 4x 100wrms (@4Ohms) amp, Quadlock plug and play harness. All you need is couple of hours to install or we could setup a dealer to fit them for around £80

Mind you the setup is good enough to not even need a sub
Tbh 575 sounds reasonable. I know bugger all about audio and what the numbers mean but if it sounds good when your sat in the car thats all that matters to me.

How would it compare to say the l7 setup and the alpine? Is there room to add a boot sub with the harness provided?

You sure can add a boot sub, and bandpass the underseat subs for midbass dutys for a better balance.

I've not heard the L7s but have heard the Alpines, whilst they are crisp the bass is let down, by the time you factor in Jehnerts or SWS-8s plus an amp its easily more than the Gladen package, and the performance is pretty damn good if I say so myself with the Gladens.

I did say £5-600 in my original post, so was about right. Only natural that others would have gone for the lower end of that spectrum but I've done the aftermarket thing before and I know you have to pay for quality

Mr Singh i may know someone who will want that set up soon.

I have heard this Gladen set in Mr Singhs car and i think it would be wrong to go for L7 or Alpine routes. Like Mr Singh has said the bass on those kits isn't great. When i heard the Gladens i was really impressed, the woofers played really low and i think that was without any EQ or anything IIRC.

That sounds like a good deal, do you have any contacts up North for fitting, I'm in Merseyside between Liverpool & Preston?

The only thing that concerns me is that I've heard of people having problems with BT phone volume after Alpine installs, any idea what causes this or if it's likely to be a problem?

Do you have the BMW professional head unit?

If so it already sends a nice clean signal and most do not change out, If not you will need it coded to HiFi for a nice signal.
Wait have I made a silly mistake here... I have the base system (no tweeters etc) but have the professional (CCC) nav. Does this mean I didn't need to buy an audio processor?

If the signal is already clean, there may be a Cleansweep coming up in the FS section shortly!
