passenger mirror moving wrong way...
so you guys know how when you fold your mirrors in they fold inwards towards the window... well when i go to push that button, my mirror folded to the window, but when it folded back, it went all the way and folded outwards to the front window. it didnt even stop half way where it should have.
i have never seen it do this. im assuming a stop in the mirror is broken or something and is allowing it to go all the way to the front of the car. so basically when my drivers mirror is in the normal position, my passenger mirror is folded outward. then when my driver mirror is folded, my passenger is also. basically i have no passenger mirror now.. anyone else have this happen to them? is there an easy fix? maybe i can reset something with my BT tool.. ill snap pics if anyone is interested..

mine does this intermittently. Seems like it moves when I push the lock/unlock button. Haven't figured it out. It's not right but I have been living with it.

Just push it by hand back into the normal driving position until you can take it to the dealer if it is still acting up. I always move mine all around manually when I wash my car without any harm done. They're meant to move manually also, in case someone hits into them.

BTW - no offence, but I think this is funny too. It must be hilarious watching your mirrors go back and forth and going too far (like Marty Feldman's eyes) - of course it will only be funny to you if you can get yourself past the pain of, well, your car being a pain... I think we'd all enjoy a short video of this if you're so inclined... Good luck in getting it fixed! |

i got my mirror back to normal, i just pushed the fold button and it went back to where it should. next time it starts acting up, ill get a clip..
At first i was pretty frustrated. i was sitting there and i just kept hitting the button and my mirrors were moving all over the place. everyone around me must have been like wtf is going on with that guys mirrors... i tried pushing on the mirror but there is quite a bit of resistance. i didnt want to snap something inside so i didnt try to force it. here is the biggest resolution i can upload of my sig shot for you guys.

Had that happen a few times on my Drivers side mirror. It did make some clicking noises, but after a few times of folding them in and out with the button, it just stopped. It did it about 2-3 times. But since has stopped. I didn't take it in to the dealer cause it stopped doing it. But if it acts up all the time, then I'll bring it in.

Had that problem.
I took apart the mirror housing and I thought that the main problem was a spring that wasn't pushing as hard as it used to, so the motor doesn't know when to stop properly. Took it to the dealers, they fixed it after observing the weird rotation. On the paperwork afterward it says they replaced the motor. But ya, just take it to the dealers =) Edit: Btw mine started acting up after someone hit my mirror on the passenger side, causing it to over-extend that way as shown in the op's pic above. At first I freaked up, but then found out I could just push the mirror back into place. After that though, the mirror would fold out too far about 50 percent of the time. So a hit and run on those mirrors could cause some parts inside to not fit as well, resulting in this problem. Just my 2cents. |

Hi,
My driver's side mirror was doing the same thing. I was able to fix it by doing the following: Extend your mirrors like your picture above Pull the overextended mirror to the fully closed position with your hand Push the button to close the mirrors push the button again to extend the mirrors This process worked for me. Good luck! |

I found a replacement mirror on eBay here for only $75 that I'm fairly sure is the same one to replace my mirror that keeps folding all the way out. The only problem is that is doesn't come with the glass in it. How hard is it to take the heated/auto dimming glass out of my current busted mirror and pop it in this one?

Misery loves company. I was hoping for a solution but nothing concrete. Our 2006 325xi w/71k miles is also having folding mirror problems. I tried some of the solutions on this site but it still acts up. Passenger mirror folds all the way forward when a door is opened. Reset button doesn't seem to do anything but wear down the battery. Will try this next from previous post.
