JB3 - Not Feeling It

Installed my JB3 pin out version a few weeks back. I was on map 3 and heard the turbos spinning and am sure it works.

I switched to Map 7 after a few days and it works even better!

Now for the lowdown:

I feel as if its not working right now. I understand it stays at the map you switched to even after turning off the engine. Weird thing is I can feel it after switching to the desired map but it "turns off" after the stop the car and turn off the engine.

Question: Do I have to switch maps everytime before I start the engine or is there a problem with other components (i.e. boost leak etc)?

My car is stock except for the JB3.

no you dont have to switch the map to whatever map when you start the car. I would however suggest map 5 for your daily driver map though.

For consistent performance you should follow the map guide and leave it on map 3 if you're 91 or map 5 if you're 93. If there is ever any doubt just do a datalog to see how things look.

I'm running on 98 octane all the while. Just wanna understand why I can't feel it or maybe its because I haven't been heavy enough with my foot

"Feel?" Do a log, BT or JB3 .. preferably both and look at your boost + ignition timing. That'll tell you everything you need to know... On 98RON? You should probably go no higher than map5.. with no other mods.. it's just not efficient.. and more boost will actually hurt performance.

Heat soaking for once.. stock IC is junk! Stock downpipes are very restrictive, those cats are made for emissions and create way too much back pressure, airflow is not efficient. Stock airbox while debatable at higher boost targets is just not efficient either, does not suck in enough air.

You will definitely lose performance.. but again the only way to see is logging your timing+boost and seeing it for yourself.

When switching from map 3 to say map 7, map 7 will always feel faster at first....

The reason is in your case your octane level and modifications dont support that much boost.

So the car in essence tuned it self "slower" via ignition. Thus it doesnt feel as fast.

Stay on map 5.

This is of course not seeing your logs... but im assuming your feeding too much boost for your octane and modification levels thus progressively going slower.

More boost doenst always mean more power... there is a point of diminishing returns via increased HEAT.

I agree. I played with Map 7 for a while and went back to 5. My car is stock. 5 is quicker than 7.

I may revisit Map 7 when slap a DCI on it.

93 octane always.
