Why are we even discussing a comparison between a diesel burning rep mobile (which let's face it all E9Xs are) and a car with one of the most exciting petrol engine around :

Who cares what the figures say, if I could afford it I know which one I would pick 100% of the time!!

I would say to 99.5% of the public my modified 335i is no different from a 320d and nothing more than a rep mobile

I have had a play with a c63 estate. He was definitely trying - the noise! I easily kept up. He pulled over and let me take the lead - i still put 2-3 car lengths on from 60-120.

There is a big advantage when you are in the slip stream. Side by side is how you make a fair comparison..

I had a play with a C63 the other day. It was an 09 plate, so guess it would be the lower powered version?

It was quicker than my F30 335d (312bhp 630nm) but not by a massive amount.... I think he would be a little surprised as he would have assumed my car was a 320d rep mobile.

I'd dying to see what a remap and dpf removal would yield on f30 335d.

i was quite impressed with a 335D which kept up with me last time!.... a good remap would certainly make them very fast!

Not sure about 335d weight but the C63 is around 200kg heavier than a 335i so even with a half decent remap to 370-380hp the difference won't be a lot between the two from a standstill. Once you are in the 100's though its a different ballgame.

f30 335d's are a whole different ballgame. xDrive gives them so much traction and they have a million gears so they seriously fly up to the 100 mark by which point again it is power vs air resistance.

I've got a fairly heavily modified 335i and I've had one 'do' with a C63. My 335i was certainly in the same ball park without question... I also know who would have run out of petrol first!!

I cant say iv squared up against c63's, however once i had my 335d remapped at evolve i was not shy to give a run to any top end car, the 335d if you change gears at the right time really does suprise alot of people, i remember driving back from manc to london, mate was in his 2008 s5 and repeatedly tried to out do me to no avail, eventually he admitted under his breath that a diesel wasted him lol. Its not about who wins with the 335d or even with my 330d which i have now, they just are surprisingly quick and shock alot of the top end car drivers when they think they will destroy

I've put a few car lengths on a local C63 Coupe in the 135i but then again that's no less tuned than some of the mightly 335i's on here . I'd still trade for a C63 though...

A friend of mine owns a C63 and a C350 CDI. He's had the 350 (standard 260bhp) remapped (around 310bhp) and deleted the DPF. He reckons "there's nothing between the two until about 130mph."

I wasted a blond bimbo in a Z35i a few weeks back. Not once, but about 7-8 times. By no means does this mean I own the faster car...it's just that I know how to get the best out of it.

Too many people now drive cars that are wayyyyy more capable than the driver behind the wheel.

When I had my C63 I found you get a lot of this, people trying to show their car is faster. The thing I enjoyed doing a lot was to accelerate hard away from the lights or whatever and back of as soon as I hit the speed limit. The other car would then shoot past and you would know they would be telling everyone how they dragged a C63 but at the end of the day it's not a C63 is it?

I've driven a few of these at work, likewise the S and CLK variant with the brutal V8 lump that they have under the bonnet make no mistake the engine glorious I love the noise they make and we've had some that feel fast and some that feel really on song, they seem to in my eyes at least vary more so than the BM's we get in, perhaps due to the fact that they react more to being driven harder than say the BMW six pots, who knows?

But on the power side there like a sledge hammer breaking a walnut raw kick in the nuts brutality when the loud pedals pressed, but I find they lack character, composure where as the BM's trade grunt for finesse, but the sound oh you can't beat it

Mind you we can re map them all now we done a CLK and although not a C63 really changed the cars character.
