Thumbs up Additional oil cooler for 335i available from ALPINA

Hello there,

While browsing through the ALPINA website, I came across the new parts catalogue for the E9x. For those who don't know the details about this, it's the catalogue of additional parts that ALPINA sells to those who do not own an ALPINA. For the 3 series these are mainly:
  • light alloy wheels (in three different designs now)
  • front spoiler
  • rear spoiler
  • suspension (NOT for 335i)

However, in this new catalogue for the year 2011, a new part has been added: An additional oil cooler. This part has so far only been available as an OEM option for the ALPINA B3 Biturbo ("hot country version"), and now ALPINA also makes this available to any 335i owner that wants to equip his car with an oil cooling upgrade.

The additional oil cooler is installed in the driver's side front wheel well, similar to other upgrades from AR design ("older" design) or STETT (see diagram below). From what I heard, it also uses a Setrab core.

I can't judge whether this oil cooler is any better or worse than the aftermarket parts already available, but I think it's good to know that such an option exists from a well-known car manufacturer. In any event, an upgraded oil cooler is IMO an excellent idea for those with tuned 335i cars, even more so when driving it on a circuit or on Germany's Autobahn without speed limit. I called Alpina to enquire about the price and availability - here you go:

PRICE: 990 EUR (VAT included)
AVAILABILITY: Through any BMW dealer (at least in Europe; I would assume that to be the same in the US and elsewhere)

Here's the page from the catalogue for your information:

Cool finding
There's no picture of the kit anywhere. Is it just me or does the price seem pretty high for an oil cooler?

As for a picture, I suppose you could ask someone who has an Alpina B3 Biturbo with this option, otherwise we'll have to wait until someone actually orders this.

The price is exactly the same as if it was ordered as an option for an original Alpina B3 BT. Also, it can be considered as an OEM part which is always more expensive than the aftermarket tuner parts. Also, it includes VAT (19%) which you do not have to pay in the US.

Lastly, don't compare European prices to US ones... Unfortunately around here most of the tuning / aftermarket parts are more expensive (due to the necessity for most to obtain a TÜV approval).

Yeah, I live in Denmark, I know about crazy prices on cars and parts....

Anyway, I think it's a great find and I may very well order one for my next oil service which is coming up in about 2 months time
