Tint over tint, or remove old tint?

My "new" 2010 E92 came from MD, with light tinting. I am in South Florida and want max tinting due to heat. Can you tint over the existing tint, or should the old tint be removed first. Obviously from the tinting I probably should, but more from the adhesive quality of tint vs glass.

Remove it first. The film is made to adhere to glass and not plastic. If you don't, it'll probably result in bubbles.

are you serious...

. So with your logic why don't you just do 3 layers of tint. If you want to repel heat and uv rays you go with a ceramic tint. ONE LAYER OF TINT. stick with legit brands of tint like huper optik, 3m, madico. Also make sure they do your dot matrix correct because I like to point and laugh at cars with bad tint.

And what logic are you referring to? I never said I wanted to layer the tints. It was an adhesion question....

You can layer tint, there really is no issue with adhesion. Just be sure they are going to warranty it. I have my guys do it from time to time when the customer flat out won't pay to remove the old tint.

I've seen ppl tinting over tints with no issues.
but I would suggest remove the existing tint and do a fresh, just one layer.
old tint must be having some scratches or wear tear...you may like to get a clean look.

adhesion??? dude tint is like tape... its going to stick no matter what. if you are even debating putting a layer of tint over another layer of tint then you have no eye for quality. I'm 100% its going to look crappy and your dot matrices are going to look hideous.

i personally would not do it, BUT it can be done, my friend had THREE LAYERS of tint on his car. and there was no bubbles and it didnt look bad at all, it was just REALLY DARK.

I would take it off myself, a shop is going to charge you a large chunk considering it'll take them longer to remove the old tint than put the new tint on.

If you use a razor blade. Just buy a fabric steamer from wal-mart for $20. Tint can be removed in less than a hour.

Most shops won't do it.
and if they do, they DEFINITELY won't be offering any type of warranty for the new layer.

Youtube removal tricks--heat is definitely your number one helper to remove old tint. The more heat you use, the less adhesive you will have to painstakenly scrape off.

I had the same issue with my previous car and went for tint over tint. I used for over a year before it was sold and there were no bubbles.
However it looked really dark which looks nice in my opinion but makes it difficult to see at night specially the side mirrors.

+1 watch the defrost lines, had to have the rear glass replaced after previous owner had the tint was removed for lease turn in and damaged the defrost lines. I was lucky, Dealer covered under warranty cause they missed it during CPO inspection.
