ohlins R/T coilover preload and height adjustment

I think I know the answer to my own question but need confirmation.

The ohlins if I am correct does not compress the spring when heightening lowering it leaving it and preload unchanged. If you set the preload to 7MM (compressing spring) how does this not change preload when turning lower spring perch? Only thing I can figure is since the top perch spins freely the shock just threads up and down thru bottom perch. I would think the preload would still get afected when raising and lowering because won't collar just thread away from the the spring instead of the perch keepining preload? Wouldn't that cause the collar to just thread away instead of keeping position as you lower/heighten vehicle?

I haven't slept much so maybe this is a stupid question. My other set threaded into shock body so this has me a bit confused.

Quick question! No time to do trial and error. Just had the ohlins installed and be on the track soon. Do I need to dial clockwise on all front and rear suspensions in order to get a stiffer track ready feel? Thanks in advance!

Clockwise is harder (stiffer) and counter clockwise is softer.

I don't think ohlins dfv have separate preload and height adjustments, bro...

I think the second collar is just for locking the one above it.

I'm surprised more coils don't have this feature, but I imagine it's because it would cause so much drama for customer service departments...

Most motorcycle shocks have this but setting sag correctly is a lot more critical on lighter vehicles.
