Multiple OFHG failures

Ok, now I am getting pissed...
My OFHG has been replaced 3 times now, 2 by a local shop and once by the dealer so that makes 4 gaskets with the Original one from factory??
WTF is going on?????
This is over 18mos???
Car has 69K on it right now.
Going to Dealer tomorrow to see if they will warranty it since they just did it in late summer of last year.
I installed the BMS Sport Oil cooler valve over the summer last year, I don't think that cause anything to leak, can't remember if I did it before or after the dealer did the OFHG.
Still have a $200 credit at the local shop but really don't want them to touch it after 2x and still leaked.
Any advice here???

at this point i would say just diy.

its not a hard fix, just time consuming.

long as they used oem gaskets and tq to the correct specs. it should be good for another 60k or more.

i did mine 4months ago with oem gaskets. no leaks.

I have the same problem. Been replaceing the ofgh every 6 months or so. Seems like oem gasket is lasting a little longer than the aftermarket ones.

then i would make sure those gaskets are torqued to spec...over tighten bolts can damage gaskets as well.

the germans are very precise when it comes to tq specs. too little or too much can cause issues. if your mechanic is not using a tq wrench hes doing it wrong

Maybe get a fresh new set of all the bolts this time around. Also stress that they clean off all the old shit real good. You can also look into a new thermostat housing itself, maybe yours is warped or jacked up.

Something is off on the install -could be torque, could be surface defects/warping.... time to look a lot closer.

Yeah, I am thinking DYI too, it's just that this time of year is crazy busy for me.
Went to the parts department at my local dealer and spoke to a couple friends that work there and we kind of came to the same conclusions that were mentioned here that maybe the housing itself is cracked or warped and definitely getting a fresh set of bolts.
I'm thinking of using some kind of sealant in addition to the OE gaskets. Any suggestions on that as to which to use?
Thanks for the help and suggestions....

Don't try to use any sealant. Just stick with what has already been said I think.

After I replaced 3 OFHG in a year I started to look for a culprit and found out that my oil pressure switch was not working properly. I don't know if I am right but I think that if my oil pressure switch is responsible to open oil bypass valve and is not working properly it created higher than normal pressures inside oil filter housing before bypass valve was opened and that prematurely wore out the gasket. Like I said it's just my theory and I only have a couple k miles since I replaced my oil pressure switch so I can't confirm anything yet

speaking of annoying repeated leaks...

I have had to replace the o-ring on the oil filter cap a few times now on different cars prior to it being due for an oil change.

I haven't paid attention enough to know if this is attributed to a particular brand or not.

I would DIY along with pressure switch. I bought the kit from FCP Euro, included switch, gaskets and all. Also check that the oil filter housing wasn't warped at some point.

Oil pressure switch only controls the red light that comes on the dashboard lol. Reasons for friquent OFHG leak could be many including: gasket, installation, and how the vehicle is being used, when and where.

This is my daily, I baby the car and fully maintain it that's why this stupid stuff drives me nuts. If I was abusing the car, OK, I could understand.
My commute is 7 miles each direction in stop and go traffic this time of year in FL.

That could be part of the problem. I'm on 3rd replacement and I do to drive in stop and go traffic. Steady oil pressure is more friendlier, I guess, towards gaskets. Engine is at 96k

I know I've heard that the BMW gaskets are lasting longer then aftermarket ones. So make sure you are getting the BMW gasket.

The install needs to be perfect. The area needs to be cleaned thorough and the surface needs to be true/smooth.

There goes my theory. But I also am trying out that stainless steel filter. Hope that will decrease pressure in the filter housing. Have not measured if it does yet. I will do it before next oil change and try to compare with stock filter
