What is the purpose of "cornering lights"?

I have a 04/2007 E90 335i with xenon adaptive headlights and FRM2. Does this thing have "cornering lights"? I've heard that they are the inner headlights while the outside headlights are used for low/high beam.

The only time I've seen my inner headlights come on is when I use my flashers. They don't come on in reverse or when the turn signal is on.


EDIT: I looked on youtube and found a demonstration of how they work. So now my question is why don't mine work? They have not been coded out as far as I know. The car was bone stock when I got it.

Put your headlight switch to 'auto' and turn the wheel, you will see them come on depending which way turn the wheel.

I put the headlights in auto, turned the steering wheel, put on turn signals in reverse, park, drive, with the light sensor uncovered (low beams off) and covered (low beams on) and the cornering lights never came on. They only come on with the flashers.

I coded my angel eyes to be my DRL's, could this have caused them not to work? Although I have never seen the cornering lights come on even before the coding.

There's coding options as to what conditions additional cornering lights activate. Output is also adjustable.

i believe the only come on under a certain speed. both come on when in reverse. and when you turn the wheel more than 15deg i believe.

Yeah they don't come on at all.

I kinda have the same issue the cornering lights used to work and all the sudden they stopped working with no warning lights any suggestions I have an e92 with adaptive headlights

My inner headlights have never came on. it does'nt matter if they are in automatic, cornering, reversing or indicating.
Can anyone help please. 2011 E93 M Sport

My 2009 335 xDriver had the same issue. The dashboard also gave me the error code. I ended up with buying a used "Footwell Module FRM ECU Adaptive Headlamps" from eBay and replaced it under the driver side dashboard. After replaced it, everything works.

If the bulb is gone it will show up on the I-Drive, mine did. So either it’s choosing not to turn them on or....?

When I got my car [2011 335i E92] the fog lamps were the cornering lamps; they'd come on when I'd turn the wheel and the switch was in Auto. My inner lights would never come on.

I did get several software updates done and one re-flashed the footwell module. After that, my inner headlights became my cornering lights and fog lights did not come on when I turned the wheel. I much preferred this, as they provided much more light on the road.

Having said that, I feel this is something that can be updated via software.

I should also note I've seen several different BMWs (brand new and E9x gen) that have varying lights; sometimes when their turn signal is on, their fog lamp is on, other times it's the inner light.

I have been told that the inner lights are backups incase the HID fails.

Does a pre-lci E90 even have cornering lights? The spot where the cornering lights are on the LCI cars (to the inside of the bi-xenon projectors) are halogen high beams on pre-LCI E90s.
