FS: OEM non-M Gauge Cluster Parts (Surrounds/Faces/Back Plates)

BIMMERPOST / Classifieds
Asking Price:
None

Item Interest
I have a couple clusters that I stripped down and wanted to see if anyone was interested in the parts to mod their own cluster. Prices are shipped in the Cont. US, Paypal preferred. I have complete instructions for the mods.

I have detailed instructions/pictures for install and assembly.

Backing plates - $60 Shipped

The portion behind the gauge face, great if you wanted to paint them a different color, etc. This way you don't risk the set you have already in your cluster.

325i/330i Gauge faces - $50 Shipped

Non-M Surrounds - $100 Shipped.

Clear plastic is in fantastic condition, these are perfect if you want to add a set of "M3 style" eBay gauge rings. This will keep you from risking your cluster to do the mod.

Also do you know if you swap out a whole cluster, is it linked to the key so it would need to be coded for the car to start? Thx

Your car will start without a cluster, not linked to the DWE.

In most cases, you'll need coding for proper operation of all features, since clusters have the car's options programmed in at the factory.

This.

Using any cluster other than the one that was provided with your car will also trigger a tamper light next to the odometer. Im not sure if that can be coded away or not.

So I take it the mileage is stored in the cluster and not the ecu?

It's complicated. If you plug in a cluster from another car, it'll display your car's mileage. It's reading the mileage from the ECU and CAS modules.

There is, however, a chip on the cluster itself which also stores the (original) car's VIN and mileage. This should be programmed for full integration with the car, though sometimes it's not necessary for proper operation.

From my experience, a cluster from around the same build date as your car (and from the same car, i.e. E90/E92, 35i/28i) is generally plug and play, whereas clusters a few years newer or from a different body style/engine than your car may not work 100%.

Hope that clears it up. Maybe MuchMoore can chime in with any additional info.
