I agree 110%.... RealOEM pics are not very clear and the hole in the lower control arm is not a suitable flat surface. Plus, it would be almost impossible to adjust them sitting down there anyway. OP, they are def installed wrong and upside down. Take it back to the shop and have them fix it for you.

Thank god nothing bad happened, I've driven about 1,200 miles until I found out it was installed wrong.

My H&Rs adjuster sat in the 'cup' on the bottom of suspension arm (e36) and i almost installed my KW V2's the same way on my e92 until i noticed that the adjuster didn’t sit tightly in the bottom 'cup' and on top of that, it would be next to impossible to adjust to height due to the fact that it adjuster sits too low inside the suspension arm to easily adjust it.

I can POSITIVELY confirm that the placement of the perch those make a difference.
mine was on the bottom too. the problem is that the cup those not sit flush with the hole in the arm so when you hit a pothole or a big dip the perch moves making noise and potentially deforming the aluminum arm.
sexye you were correct

Ok had my rear springs properly installed with the perch on top.
It turns out that when you do this it really drops the car, before the instaler had to remove a ring to get the car lower, now I had to raised about 1.25 inch to get it to where it was before. no more noises
