Cobb or Dinan or Performance BMW???

Not for nothing but I wanted to improve my cars performance. At what worth! Dinan, BMW or Cobb? I'm no rocket scientist but Performance BMW (320hp) and Dinan (360hp) in the $3,000+ range installed seemed quite high in price for > performance compared to Cobb's @ $900 value. I decided to go with Cobb and can't believe the > performance compared to Dinan and Performance BMW. Is it me or is Dinan and Perform BMW a complete rip off!

with dinan and BMW you are paying for warranty and the name brand...nothing else.

Depending on what stage, you need more than just software for dinan, also as posted above, bmw performance kit is software, additional cooling components, etc. Cobb is a great value, from what I've read you may want to invest on a aftermarket intercooler to go along with the cobb tune. Do a search, you will see the cobb is aggressive and benefits from a IC.

"You get what you pay for" that's my motto.

With that being said you're paying for quite a bit more with the BMW performance power kit. You're not voiding your warranty, and don't have to do stealthy procedures to make it look like your car isn't tuned.

I can't wait for PPK to be released for the N55, and I'll get one immediately. Considering all the threads here on problems after our standard tunes, and whether there is some relation or not with the HPFP failure, I'll steer clear of those until my 335 isn't my daily driver anymore.

Pricepoint to horsepower - yes the others are rip offs. But the VALUE of what you're getting is totally different. Cobb, JB, nor Shiv won't hang you out to dry if you have a problem, but the bottom line is that if their devices cause your BMW a problem, BMW NA certainly will.

In my opinion, the Dinan tune is of far lesser quality than the COBB. Just putting that out there and save the flaming because I had Dinan for over a year. There was just no continuing support for the tune, no way of ramping up the power, and everything was far too expensive!

I would never buy the BMW Performance Kit either, although I would be interested in retrofitting the cooling components.

If you're really on the fence about this choice, I really cannot recommend COBB more highly. Unless of course you're also looking at piggybacks

I have no experience with piggyback tunes, so flash-wise:

Dinan S1 requires no oil cooler, less HP than S2. Dinan S2 requires factory (or aftermarket) oil cooler, more HP than S1 (20-30), $500 upgrade over S1. Dinan S3 requires Dinan FMIC and OC and either their exhaust or aftermarket, another 20HP or so, $500 upgrade over S2 (aside from the rather expensive FMIC and OC plus installation). Dinan doesn't have any special versions of their software for DPs, meth, bigger turbos, etc.

BMW Performance kit for 2007-early 2008 N54 cars includes a new DME along with the software and additional cooling parts. If you have a later 2008-2010 car, you just get the software and cooling stuff. $1600 before any discounts (BMWCCA members get 20% at my dealership) isn't too bad considering what you get.

GIAC flash has good reputation, Cobb shows lots of promise too, but in any event, make sure you have some sort of decent oil cooling capability. Heat is your enemy, and turbos make lots of it. Pushing them harder makes even more. If you're out of warranty and feeling lucky, the sky and your wallet are the limit...
