Has anyone ever hacked the I-Drive software

I'm curious whether anyone has ever tried or succeeded at hacking the I-Drive interface. Things I would like to modify:
Change the background colors
Displays photo's or slideshows from images stored on I-Drive
Make the interface and menus more user friendly
Display actual oil level
Display actual tire pressures

Well there's a way to enable DVD viewing while driving via programming (not recommended though). Also you can enable a hidden service menu, doesn't give too much more info, just status on the GPS and such:

• Call up Start menu
• Push controller in up direction for at least 10 s
• Controller 3 notches to the right
• Controller 3 notches to the left
• Controller 1 notch to the right
• Controller 1 notch to the left
• Controller 1 notch to the right
• Press controller once
• The Service menu is now added as the last submenu to "Settings"

enjoy

People used to hack the CAN BUS on E46s and do alot of stuff with that. Try googling E46 Can hack or something.

There may be some relevant info. But in the end, it's too much work for such little gain.

I'm really interested to see if the media/ipod interface can be hacked to be compatible with other devices. It would be awesome if I can control the android media player on my phone with the iDrive via USB

The Idrive colours can be changed using NCS expert, but its limited in colour range.

You would have to recode the Idrive software for the rest, which would need uploading (Potentially not viable via DCAN cables due to transfer rates)

Im sure it could be done, but it may be easier to get an interface that switches between the Idrive and an external source and use a netbook or something similar..
