although some may consider it a little more work than what's "ideal," here's what I did for the best outcome:

1.) Put car on jack stands
2.) Unmount wheels
3.) Take wire brush wheel + drill
4.) Clean away

always looked great afterwards but I got tired of doing it, so I recently got some G2 paint and painted them. Problem solved.

+1 then apply a coat of silver dupli-color caliber paint to the hubs. Keeps the new rust from forming

1500 grit sand paper... sand to it's completely off... then apply some grease to prevent future oxidation/rust

If you have a drill, just buy a wire bush attachment or bit and have at it. Forget sanding, elbow grease is gay.

I've done this before so listen to this guy. He's right. The drill pieces are just as expensive as sand paper.

Then just hit it with caliper paint. Paint to calipers while you're at it. I went all black just to hide everything.

You still have to spray paint them. Use a high temp rustoleum. Like a black, rust proof, bbq spray. That should last a long time.Just don't spray the face of the hub you may have some wheel issues.
There is also this stuff called por15.
Google it, I've used it before on other projects. If you do the por15 correctly, the rust will never come back.
