My one was "repaired" and is a little bit bigger than yours OP....went to kwik fit and they guys say it wouldn't pass MOT ....had to find some other place for MOT....
My one is smooth when you run your hands over it....and hasn't "grown" since I got it 2/3 years ago.... Don't want to replace the screen as I don't trust those numpties.... |

Thanks again for the replies.
The £25 I paid was my insurance excess so it was a normal price repair for the window company. Going to phone and complain tomorrow once I've had a good look in daylight.

You have professional opinion from two independent repairers. What you show in the image is about as 'un-repaired' as it can be. |

Yes, think I'll call the insurer rather than National Windscreens - I don't want them back.
Glassman, good having a second professional opinion.

I phoned the insurnce number but annoyingly the call goes straight through to national windscreens. Anyway, they are calling me on Monday to discuss the options.
Two questions to the glass experts. 1. Does the fact that an attempt to repair has already been done mean it can't now be fixed? 2. If they say the chip can't be fixed to a much better standard based on "not all chips can be fixed", (and in your opinion the previous repair doesn't mater in terms of another attempt) should I be persistant in the fact that the chip in the picture CAN actully be fixed to an MOT pass level? Thanks!

Ref question 1:
It depends .... Some chips can be re-repaired, it depends on the chip and how much resin has blocked the galleries and gournels up It's worth having a competent repairer trying if you want to keep your original screen Once they've had a go, look at the results, if your happy then accept or if your not 100% confident in the repair reject ! Ref question 2: If your not happy with the end result, you want to be instant that because the original chip was repairable and to an mot standard you require a new screen but at no cost to you. As a side note, you want to insit on a like for like screen replacement If you have a genuine screen currently, you want a genuine screen for a replacement You can check this as the bottom left hand side next to the bsua stamp there should be a BMW badge The reason for this, SOME non gen screen can cause issues with the auto light and wipers as the sensor is mounted to the glass There can be microscopic differences in the glass thickness and this causes irratic behaviour from them Tom

They just did my 335i screen, and very well done too, perfect.
I have had horror after horrors with the local Autograss Cowboys. Three attempts to make good the S2000, and after filling the leaks with black silicone under the rubber trim, I sacked them off - tossers. Utter clowns, all of them - had it with two franchises now. Good news for me as an Admiral client, the National Windscreen guy assures me they are now supplier of choice. Autocrass are relegated to backup supplier for AG.

Just had a call from the Wife to say that they came back to re-do the chip.
Apparently, the guy that came has been doing it for 24 years but the chip doesn't look much better.... He said it should pass the MOT though. We shall see!

If the size exceeds guidlines, and it looks like it impairs vision, its a fail. My BIL is an MOT tester. BTW to the previous poster, my chip turned from 10mm bullseye to a two foot crack overnight I do like those Autocrass twats on the radio adverts: "Eventually ALL chips will turn into a crack" What utter bollocks - how do they get away with that!

BanziBarn.....I was at one of my customers today, a coach company, when your email notification came though, the damage on the screen I was about to repair reminded me of your picture.
Bare in mind that this damage has done allot of miles in winter weather so has allot of road grime and cleaning agents forced into it and it's allot bigger than your damage, this give you an indication of what yours should have and could have looked like : From... too... Just out of a morbid sense of curiosity .... Post a picture of there re-repair attempt please Tom
