Tire Size: 205/50/17 & 225/45/17

what is difference btw 205/50/17 and 225/45/17 tires?
is 225/45/17 much wider than 205/50/17? how much wider?

didn't exactly know how to read those sizes..

how about 205/50/17 and 205/55/16, are they any different in width?
205/50/17 any wider? it seems a bit wider then 205/55/16 which is my stock tire.

For winter tires, you should always go as narrow and small as possible. Therefore, 205/50/17 is preferred over 225/45/17 (or over any 18 or 19 inch for that matter) for a 330i/335i and 205/55/16 is optimal on a 323i/325i/328i.

Ideally, you should also stick to the above tires sizes since this will result in minimal effects on the accuracy of your speedometer reading. Your speedometer may be slightly more off with a 205/45/17 tire size unless you mean 225/45/17.

narrow tires perform better in winter
but I believe most of people here runs popular size 225/45/17
and I run 225/40/18 all around for winter

225/45-17 is narrower, at least on the back.

That's what I run and I ski in the mountains (I live in Calgary) every weekend and my 225/45-17 Hakkapeliittas work great for me.

16 inch wheels (and many 17s) won't clear the brakes on a 330/335.
