Dang, I am shocked you chose SPEC with all the problems the forum has had. Maybe they are working to make things better? Good luck and I am looking forward to seeing how things go for you!

The people doing the install have done tons of SPEC clutch installs with zero issues. I'm not worried at all.
I'll keep folks updated either way. Last edited by jpsimon; 05-13-2010 at 06:56 AM.. |

I'm surprised as well, but I hope everything works out.

Nice weight reduction. Why not opt for stg 5? Especially now you putting down that power with upgraded turbos.
I thought you were AT.

I don't trust a few peoples bad luck vs. just as many with no issues... plus my buddy has done tons of SPEC clutch installs and has never once had an issue. I'm betting most of the issues on this forum were from installation error.
I'm honestly not worried at all |

stage 3 will be fine - I think ASR runs this same combo on their car. AT? I'd never get an auto 335! I've never owned any auto car

my stock clutch was owned... all warped and discolored. I have a feeling I wasn't putting down nearly the power to the ground I should have been. Im excited to feel the difference

I'm really interested to hear what the chatter is like with the Stage 3 & single mass LW flywheel. I went with the Stage 3 with stock dual mass flywheel as the only 2 guys I could find (both on this forum) that had gone with the LW flywheel both said they regretted it, that the chatter was loud enough people were asking if their car was broken. As well, the changed 1st, 2nd, 3rd+ order harmonics in the shaft are complete unknowns when you change the flywheel (without having BMW's FEM software at home), and with a long block 6 and high horsepower my Professional Engineer side wasn't comfortable with that unknown.
I've been happy with mine, except it's been almost a year and it still has a fair bit of engagement chatter (not noise, physical engagement pulsing). A lot less than when it was first installed, but still probably 15% of the time I engage the clutch it pulses/vibrates. Annoying for me, as I pride myself in smooth, low rpm engagement when I'm not driving fast. I know Vishnu went with the Stage (1 or 2?), and I think LW flywheel, and seems happy. Good luck! Yeah, I bought Turkish335's Spec stage 3+ clutch, he had it installed and taken out because it wasn't engaging, he returned it to Spec for inspection, tear down to check, Spec said that there is nothing wrong with the clutch except that one of the adjustment sping was a bit extended, they set it to default and sent it back to him; guess what, it's working beautifully for me, no problems at all. It's the installation.
