Got the issue... 3 of the LED on the right rear is blinky and gave me a error code....
Removed the assembly and powered it with a 12V power supply and it still blinks so I have concluded that it is the tail lamp assembly and not wiring connectors or module.

So I tried to take it apart and ended up cracking the lens.... looks like I will need a new tail lamp. Do you guys recommend OEM or do you think aftermarket is ok?

Dang it. Mine is flickering on the E90 LCI M3 as well.

So regardless of the SBI bulletin, car out of warranty, the dealer will refuse to entertain replacement? My assumption was once there is an SBI, its considered a recall and replaced regardless?

Thanks in advance.

Just because there is a SBI I wouldn't say it is a recall. It is more of a known issue and that there is a resolution to the problem. Don't think they will replace if there's no problem or replace it for free.

Anyway I picked up an aftermarket tail lamp made by TYC. Cost half the price as the original and it is plug and play (include the incandescent bulbs too). Fitment looks almost perfect.

Thanks!

Light is flickering so there is a problem. In this case, it wont be covered by BMW NA (if that's what I am gathering)?

Cheers,

Yes flickering will or could set off the warning chime that you have a problem (kind of annoying).

I don't believe it is covered by BMW NA. But for $80 for a TYC lamp, might as well just do it yourself. Three screws and a connector.

Right tail light out

My right tail light just went out as well and apparently the CPO warranty doesnt cover it...... ok. So TYC is the way to go? I was debating between OEM and TYC but from the looks of it TYC is the exact same thing and a whole lot cheaper.

I went with TYC and I have no complaints. It even comes with the incandescent bulbs so fully plug and play

My 328xi had the same problem. 3 LEDs barely working on the right rear turn signal. Ordered the TYC from Rock Auto for $55. It looks great and solved the problem. I wasn't sure if the TYC would look good, but it seems to be an exact match. One connector and 3 nuts is all it takes for replacement. To verify if it will work you can just swap the electrical connector before pulling the old light.

@JC_BMW

Do you have the TYC product number for your right tail light assembly that you purchased from www.rockauto.com?

I am having the same problem and my local dealership (which isn't far from you) wants to charge me $450 for the part.

Here is the part number from Rock Auto (outer tail lamp)

Left Rear: BM2818114
Right Rear: BM2819114
They ship from a Canadian warehouse so the shipping is cheap!

Easy DIY.

That's awesome. Thanks. Will order mine tonight.

Do you recommend changing both left and right or should I change the affected side?

I just change the defective side. It hasn't really been proven that you need to change both side. When I took the OEM off, I can hear the circuit board rattle inside.

How about the LED light, is it working good? the color matching very good?. Do you need to buy a seal also or using the old seal? Thanks
