Noise from engine, and its not the oil filter
Hi, I recently got a 2006 e90 325i and its making a weird sound from the oil filter area. I tough it was the oil filter but after an oil change including oil filter, the sound is still there. Tonight I got a closer look, the sound is actually coming from between the oil filter housing and the engine block. I got no clue what could it be. Any help will be appreciated.
Noob here, tried to attach video but didn't worked for me Edit: Got videos working! Last edited by cortega; 04-14-2014 at 10:26 PM.. Reason: Got videos working! |

Probably your oil filter housing gasket. That noise is air being sucked into your engine where the gasket has failed. Replace it sooner rather than later and also be sure to change your oil and your coolant, as you've probably now got oil in your coolant and vice versa. Do some searching on here, there are a lot of DIY's for this.

probably the alternator.
take a big screwdriver, hold it firm against the alternator and other areas, the the handle against your eye. try to figure out where the noise is coming from. use the screwdriver as a stethoscope. dont wear a tie, be careful not to get caught up in the running belts. dont die. im not responsible for your death if you do. |
