Cleaning rims

Hey guys, I ran my CSL reps in winter, which caused the finish to get stained. It also seems to have light surface rust, which I can remove by rubbing my finger on it. In any case, I need a cleaner that will bring the original shine back, the finish seems dull now due to the staining. Any ideas what I may use? Needs to be something I can buy locally, i.e. can't buy online, wait for shipping, etc. Thanks.

I have searched and read that P21S might work, but I don't know where to buy it.

Clean it with a wheel cleaner and wax it.

I understand, but I'm asking for advice on wheel cleaners. It has to be something rather powerful. I've tried what I have which usually works well, but not in this case, they are stubborn stains.

P21 can often be found at Harley dealers.
clay is available at most auto stores.

clay as in a clay bar used to detail paint? I think what I need is a strong acid cleaner. Any suggestions?

If your finger can remove it, clay can remove it with less chance of inducing further marring.

You don't want to use an acid based cleaner. My suggestion would be to wash it with a fairly strong degreaser. Even something like Dawn dishwashing liquid will work. Then do the clay bar to get off any other contaminents and follow with a couple coats of a synthtic wax. Don't use a carnauba based wax because your wheels get too hot and will melt the carnauba off in no time. There are a lot of synthetic based waxes available through local auto parts stores.

They can be. Some just choose the bare polished finish. I had my brushed finished iForged wheels on my last car clear powdercoated but I left the polished lips bare. The advantage to leaving them bare is that it's easy to refinish. With a clearcoat, to refinish you'd have to strip the clear and paint it again. With a bare finish, you just polish.

you can get the p21s here. you would be amazed how much crap a clay bar can remove off of rims but it will be junk afterwards. definitely apply some Poorboys Wheel Sealant to them so this doesn't happen again, all you have to do is wash them with your regular car wash and a soft bristle brush.
