Who all is signed up? I am going for the Saturday session.

Both days filled up in like 2-3 days this time around, crazy stuff.

Also, what are you guys using for brake fluid? I have always used ATE Super Blue/200, but thinking about changing it up this time.

I also plan to run 100% distilled water and water wetter in place of 50/50 coolant mix to help bring my coolant temps down.

I went to register the day after it opened up and the Saturday session was already full... So I had to register for Sunday.

I am signed up for both days. But.... I was ~unofficially~ invited to the ITS (instructor training school), so there may be an opening for both days if I am an instructor for the school.

BTW. I got the new EC-7s, they look sweet. I am also going to put some Brembos on, and they too look sweet. I can't wait to try them both out with 255s. Racey, I think you can get a day's worth out of those tires, but you will probably have to swap fronts for rears at lunch time.

Yeah, we will see, I'm just hoping to go a whole morning limp mode free.

And we need pics of that wheel and BBK setup!

Maybe I will volunteer for Sunday this time if I am available.

I'll be instructing both days Friday and Saturday and I'll be an ITS instructor on Friday - might be in a car with you Alex! Good luck, that program is a blast - I love teaching it as much as anything.

Not sure what car I'll have, but most likely the M3 as I just ordered a new 13 335is with Performance Center Delivery which will be scheduled to deliver around the same time and I'll be selling/trading my 2007 335i likely before the school.

Be fun either way - it always is.

I have always used ATE as well, but am going to try StopTech STR-600 - it is about the same price but has much higher dry and somewhat higher wet boiling temps.

Thanks for the input, and guess I will see you out at HPR.

Is there any truth to some of the conversations out there about ATE 200 not having low enough viscosity for the DSC system and we should only be using OEM or a couple other DOT 4LV types?

Orange binders by Brembo. They look good, it remains to be seen how they do. I bled them twice but I lost that hard brake pedal feel I like. Gotta get that back. I spent some time bedding them in this morning. Here's the pic, dirty wheels and all.

I'll suggest it doesn't matter.

BMW did issue a bulletin in 2001 saying Dot 4 low viscosity fluids will be required going forward on new models and suggests that their fluid by stated part number is formulated to be such. Yet it continues to be labeled as DOT4 and gives no data or mention regarding low viscosity performance. The manual doesn't call out a specific BMW part number for brake fluid (like it does for oil), nor does it say anything about low viscosity fluid. Neither does the brake fluid reservoir - it only says to use DOT 4.

ATE 200 low-temp viscosity is not anywhere near the low-temp viscosity of the low viscosity fluids available, but yet it, and other DOT4 fluids seem to work just fine in late model BMWs. It might make a difference in super cold climates, but I think for track work and the temperatures we usually see around here, the higher boiling point DOT 4 fluids are what I want to have in my car.

I did some research after I wrote this and agree with you 100%. It seems to be a viscosity rating only threshold at very low (-40°F) temps, so will not have any affect at the track. Good to know. I might be switching over to Motul RBF 600 and give it a try, I think I am getting some pretty high temps out there.

Alex, do you think you go air in the ABS/DSC system? Sometimes that can happen when changing out calipers or brake lines if you have them disconnected for a while. I think there is a way if you have a bav. tech to cycle the ABS pump and try and bleed it. Might be worth a try.

I do think that is what happened, so I will try that.

Awesome, congratulations, you'll love the program.

And I'll have my E30 M3 there to drive as my 2007 335i will be making way for my new 2013 335is, but that doesn't arrive until June 21 when I pick it up in Spartanburg!

Probably Hankook R-S3s or Nitto NT01. Looking forward to hearing about the ITS! That should be a blast. I read this a while ago - Instructor Stories over at bimmerforums...

^ Sounds good! Both are great. I literally just ordered four 255/35/18 Hoosier R6s, can't wait. That was a great link, I'm on #37

So rest of the grid is out on first lap by the time we are belted in and as I am about to start the "lots of time left in the wknd, don't feel rushed" speech, he hands me some ECU controller with instructions to keep eye on inlet temps and, if they get high, push this button to reduce boost a bit. Immediately start pushing this button like an old lady on bus tour to Atlantic City bellied up to the slots. The weekend just went on from there as an exercise in reducing the number of wholely terrifying moments vs getting any actual instruction in.
I almost fell to the floor!
