CiC Retro head unit question... Which is better?

The CiC units for 2009 - 2011 or the 2012 - 2015?

Looking at collecting all the pieces I need during the winter to do this in the Spring.

Thanks in advance for any help....

If you're retrofitting into an E9x, then look for a CIC made in 2011. As with all technology, they would have refined / ironed out problems on earlier motherboards, used better chips, die processes, etc..

From 2012, the CIC's were fitted into the F3x.

I'm not talking about the CiC-HIGH (aka NBT) systems.

But a late 2012 CiC unit

From what I can tell, there are even CiC's in late X1's

Any CIC unit from the F3x series, will have a different fascia control panel ie. the one that controls mute, volume, etc...This is connected to the climate control unit. This fascia control unit uses a LIN bus protocol which the climate control converts into CAN messages and sends this through to the FEM module.

The E9x CIC fascial control panel use a UART control protocol to control mute, volume, etc...and is connected directly to the CIC.

You can fit a CIC from an F3x into your E9x, however, I'm thinking you will need a UART -> LIN converter, something which the emulators already do for the NBT / NBT EVO.

Excuse me... at what point in time do you not understand the statement I am not talking about nor wanting information on the NBT?

Hahahahaha

Greyfox

anees has answered your question perfectly.

Good luck installing your 2015 CIC in an E9X, especially if you ignore what anees has told you.

At what point in time will you understand that he's not talking about the NBT? Early Fxx cars got the CIC (not NBT), but it's not compatible with Exx cars (without some hacky stuff, at which point you might as well do an actual NBT).

Why do people insist on telling people that they don't know what they are talking about and try to force them down the path that THEY think they know best?

I want a CiC because I can do the retrofit for under $500 compared to several thousand for the NBT and it will give me everything I need.

btw... X1's had CiC units up to June 2015....

And the reason I am asking is because of the different versions of firmware that come in various years and I wanted to know what were the good and bad for each. Ya'll pretty much fucked up any chance of getting into that discussion.
