3rd party navigation....

I opted out of NAV when i purchased my car, now im looking into third party options... but im looking for something with the LEAST amount of wiring because i cannot stand clutter and wires dangling all over the place.

Is there any way around this problem or do they all pretty much have the same hook up deals.

and I KNOW...if i would have gotten NAV i wouldnt have had to worry about wires LoL. I just didnt like the esthetics of the IDRIVE.

Thanks.

I have this Garmin and I like it a lot:

https://buy.garmin.com/shop/shop.do?cID=134&pID=10625

I use it with the bean bag holder, which works ok but tends to shoot off the dash when I floor it.

Dude, get off my s@ck... how do you know how much searching ive done and such...i have SPECIFIC questions that im asking that none of the other threads answered to my liking.

How about you SEARCH out what you critisize other people for not searching, see what the search bring up...then carry on. Instead, you assume...come across as a total @ss...at least to me, and troll my thread to jump your post count.

next time, private mail me, so i can REALLY tell you how i feel about it.

and to METH, thanks bro...appreciated.

I believe Garmin is the way to go. Wiring it shouldn't be too bad, no worse than wiring a V1 or other radar detector.

Go Garmin, it's powered via a cig lighter and can also run on battery. You could even hardware the power if you wanted.

Best bang for your buck. I have the Nuvi 360 and love it. You can get BMW spalsh screens and upload BMW vehicles onto it. Pretty Cool.

Consumer Reports has some good rundowns on the Garmin. Personally, I'd spend a little more and get one with all the gizmos (live traffic, etc).

Garmin's batteries run out really quick. I once tried it and I was out of batteries after three days. If you remember to recharge every night, I guess this isn't such a problem.

I've used VZ Navigator through Verizon for $10/month and it works great. It has turn by turn voice directions, perspective 'birds eye view' and everything else that OEM and aftermarket navi systems have. (much better than the google maps with gps setup that the iphone has)

Also, I've heard of people's cars getting broken into (window smashed) just because of suction cup outlines on the windshield which suggest there is a navi hidden in the car. This is a top reason why I go with a cell phone based navi or integrated OEM navi only.

The only problem with that is you must have cellular reception for the maps to be downloaded and have the voice playback.

My brother had one of the small TomTom GPS. like the 130 or something. it was less than $200 iirc, and was pretty easy to use. it has a cigarette lighter plug, but if you use it a lot, you can splice it into the fuse box and tuck the wire somewhere under the dash.
