"Tuning" a BOV?

Forgot to ask what tial are we talking about the "q" or the old 50 mm, i just ordered the q with an 11lb spring hope that's ok

You guys really know your BOVs. I'm hoping you can help me out. I have an Agency Power BOV. It's a vacuum style with piston and spring similar to tial I guess. The BOV works perfectly under normal acceleration and shifting. When I go WOT and let off the gas to shift it starts to vent but then stops and doesn't finish venting until I press the gas again after shifting. Any ideas?

Why not run the recommended springs? I guess the 9lb spring could be "ok" but when Tial puts out information basically recommending the 11lb, I don't see the logic in running the 9lb, except the fact that most kits come with it. Does that make it the best spring to run for a tuned N54? Unlikely....

so you have the tial 50mm? i know you have the 11lb spring, you happy wit that? i have the q with an 11lb on a stock tune,(had a jb+ but switching to cobb this spring) just wondering if ill be ok with that for now , since its not installed yet. also the q doesnt have an 7 or 9 spring, they offer 6 8 10 11 or 12, wondering if i should have got the the 10

correct, 50mm - happy with the 11lb spring. I would not say there is abig difference in performance between the two but I found the throttle response was better with 11lb.

I had the Q, and with the proper 11lb spring worked great... better than with the 9lb spring I had before switching. At least turkish and I can both confirm that we got improved throttle response and less flutter from using the appropriately rated spring (TiALs own recommendation based on engine vacuum on these cars).

As turkish said above, it is true that it isn't a huge performance difference seeing as many people run the 9lb spring with no problems at all. It did bother me though that under certain conditions the valve would hang open for a split second before building boost, and that would translate to a little bit of lag. I'd say, do it right from the start and take TiAL's spring recommendation.

The 11lb spring for the Q series is Yellow (or Dark Pink for models before 1/16/2012).

However, I recently purchased the CPe Charge Pipe/Tial Q BOV Kit that BMS sells on their website. It came with the Plain Spring (unpainted). Tial website rates this spring at 10psi (16in/hg to -19in/hg) for the Q Series, or 11psi for the older BV 50MM series.

Through all the research I've done, this seems to be the ideal spring for our cars (N54 anyway). Some have mentioned stepping down to the White spring, or even the Black spring w/washers under it, because the Plain Spring was too tight. I suspect this is because they weren't running a full 1/4" inner diameter DEDICATED vacuum line to the manifold, which Tial specifically recommends to prevent delays in BOV opening.

By the way the spring ratings are 1 lb different between the BV 50MM and the Q models because the spring is less compressed in the Q, so the spring colors will be different.
