Just got Dinan stage 2 and.......not that impressed
I spent nearly a hundred hours reading every forum on the net when trying to decide what I was going to do to my '08 335 w/step. My conclusion, was the dinan was just slightly less 'powerful' than the V3. But, factoring in that I wasn't go to do anything else with the car and no hassles when taking it in for service, I figured I'll just go that route.
I read that sometimes you have to wait a couple days for the computer to 'learn', well 5 days later and not that impressive. I do think that there is some improvement, but no where near what I expected. If anything, I find more intial lag, then slightly stronger mid range. Absolutely zero traction issues, even though it's auto, I thought I'd still have some potential spin issues with factory rubber. I understand that the factory numbers are underated, and I wasn't going to see a 40% increase in torque (300 to 420ft-lbs), but such a marginal improvment for more than 2k, what's the deal? I'm going to take it back next week, but what should I ask them to be looking for? The dealership has done over a hundred flashes, and they say no one has complained. Was I just expected too much. I had an '06 330 before this, and was really really impressed with the stock 335i. I just kept reading that a flash/piggy back would add soooo much more. Any thoughts? Disappointed |

no the dinan is just not that good imo. I know im gonna have everyone cast stones upon me for saying this but i rode in my friends car with a Dinan stage 2 tune, fmic, and exhaust and my JB3 tune only 335 would walk him like a dog. See if u can get your money back. Go to N54tuning.com and order a jb3 from Mike. You wont regret it.

Wow after reading this I don't know what to think. I'm extremely close to getting a tune and was probably going to go dinan this week. I know the performance #'s are nowhere near JB3 or ProCede, but being that my car is an 09.....4 years of warranty is alot to throw away on a brand new car.
This is disappointing, I really was hoping the dinan tune would be worth the 2K....for both peace of mind and decent performance, though others have stated they are happy with the dinan tune.....but there's so many mixed reviews. Damn, guess I'll be waiting a few more years to tune my car then...... |

i would just get jb3 and bavarian tool if u worry about warranty. Much cheaper and more powerful. I haven't had a chance to drive dinan flashed 335 but I dont know if it's worth when you have better options and still can keep your warranty. I haven't heard someone lost warranty with the tool.

Strange. I definitely noticed a big difference in how the car drove after I got flashed.
I drove a stock 135i the other day and it felt slow in comparison to my Dinan-tuned 335i. Don't know what to tell you pal.

In DS or in M I can light up the traction control/spin the wheels at will, and that is case still even after I upgraded to bigger/better wheels and rubber.

this doesnt really seem right. I had the turbo tuner when I first got my car and I had traction issues for sure. I know the dinan tune is stronger than the sstt. Maybe they flashed stage 1 by accident. dont know? Ive never tried a dinan flash but have tried about everything else.

just to throw this out there:
1) ybbiz is 100% correct, go out for a ride in a dinan2 and see how you like it. Ive been for a cruise in one and it was pretty good, but definitely not the brute force that you feel with the piggies even on stage 1 for v3 (havent been in a jb3..but i assume similarish for the equivalent map) 2) there have been a few posts in this thread about adding a jb+ to the dinan. there is no worse thing you could do for your car than stack tunes. One tune manages a lot of variables based on inputs, when you mess with those variables you start getting output that is not what the tune was programmed for. To me thats nothing but dangerous, and if you were buying the dinan because you were concerned about warranty...adding a JB+ is essentially throwing that warranty in the toilet for a lot of money...might as well start with a piggyback.

I don't know what to say, I've noticed a definite difference in power.....it's not as crazy as some of the others definitely, but it's definitely palpable, so to speak.....why don't you do a dyno......just to see? I pre and posted, and there were solid gains of 40hp and 50ftlbs tq.....that's something you're gonna feel......dyno it...

Cool so while most people spend less than $900 for a JB3 and a bav tech tool that not only allows you to clear codes but can do other things. This guy should not only spend the $2k. But spend $300 more for a JB+ or 1k more for a descent set of tires. I thought a FLASH was suppose to be instant with no adaptation anyway cuz your Re Flashing the DME not tricking it. Your in canada. Dont u guys get like 93/94 octane.get your money back for the flash from the stealership and raise hell and have them reflash your car back to stock. Get Jb3/Dci/BT tool combo for $1k and put the other $1k back in your bank account. When you get it put it on MAP 7. Let it adapt for a day and go blow the doors off the thing. Oh and make sure your heart is in good health cuz the car will be exciting as hell to drive. P.S im not dawging anyone elses choice. But voicing my opinion on what i think about the Dinan. I understand to some money may not be a factor. But to me the Jb3 is not only a money saver but a quality product

I didn't tell him to upgrade his tires. And who in the hell lives in Canada? The other guy you quoted is located in California. I'm so confused. I'm not mentioning any other tunes at all in my commentary. I stay out of that business.

You should check out the thread by ORB about Dinan losing power. I believe he has the stage 3 but the dinan software is in DEFAULT MODE hence running stock performance. His car is only pushing 8-9psi boost compared to the usual 14- 14.5psi Dinan Stage 3. This maybe the same thing that's happening to yours!
