Blackstone Labs Update with the N54

Hey guys,
I'm doing some testing with various oils to see what oil works best in my engine.
I tried out Mobil 1 Turbo Diesel 5w40 because it has more wear properties than most others and because it's a little thicker than the 5w30 oils.
I got good results with the Mobil1 but I wasn't using methanol then.
Now I am using meth and I was curious what the results would be like if I would have used it with the Mobil1.

This is the only thing that I did differently.

1. I went from Mobil 1 5w40 to Castrol Edge 5w30
2. I added the Methanol Injection.

I went to the strip both times so I'm thinking that the same conditions were on each oil.

Right now, I am using the Valvoline 5w30 because I have heard extremely good things about this oil.
But, there's a good chance that I will be going back to the Mobil1 after this change.

I'm curious with your thoughts.
When comparing each oil, the castrol has more of some things, but the Mobil1 has more of others.
What is more important?

BTW, Castrol is the report of 3/19 and the mobil is 1/9

My private mechanic despises Castrol and thinks that they are in bed with BMW. He is of the opinion that it is not fully synthetic either.

Well....everyone has an opinion.......but it does look like the Mobil 1 maintained better viscocity? but maybe that's the methanol impact on the Castrol.....so hard to say because it's not apples to apples.

Good results overall!

As for your valvoline test, I am sure you will get fantastic results out of it. One suggestion though: try Valvoline Synpower 5W-40. It is currently pending certification by BMW!

I've had nothing but amazing results with Synpower 5W-40 at 5000 mile oil drain interval.

Am I reading this correctly?

1/9 = Mobil1, no meth, part of report
3/25 = Castrol Edge, meth, part of report
3/26 = Valvoline, NOT part of report, oil change after the report yesterday?

i just called bmw to see when my last oil change was, i have gone 14 months without an oil change, 6,500 miles on her since then.

you guys think i can get by with leaving JB3 in for this oil change? It will be going through their "quick" 90 minute service

I understand what you are saying but the main point of running the turbo diesel 5w40 was to see if it did well in our engines and it did. The question that I have now is...will it do well in our engines with meth injection. I don't know but I'll find out.

I haven't had testing done yet on the Valvoline but I have it in my engine right now.
