Im in agreement with Beemerbird on this, you pays yer money and drives what you want. Sod what anyone else thinks.

Those who look down on others need to think, are they really any better off?

Both my E90 and wifes TT are bought, paid for and owe us nothing at all, so those smug wazzocks in their more powerful motors can grin all day but the majority are paying every month for the privelidge.

Most do care what other people think, slaves to advertising and branding whether we like it or not

And what you loose in depreciationeach month is probably around a typical monthly finance cost. Each to their own.

It's down to choice - there are many reasons for choosing a specific car...

For example, I would have settled for a 520d without any problems, but because I did not like the oval singular exhaust pipe, I went one up - not to look down on smaller engined models, it was purely a matter of taste. In times gone by, I loved BMW but Mr. Insurance wasn't having any of it, so I had to settle for smaller engine models - again individual reasons.

To describe basic models as "poverty spec" or any other similar derogatory term, is ignorant at the least. If your needs are basic, then you don't need maximum spec. Would you live alone in a 20 bedroom house? Or set the table for 4 if you eat alone? Don't be daft...

As for E90 popularity ... yes, they are popular... but draw the line between popular and common - these words might imply the same thing, but in two different ways
In a nut shell, sadly I'm not as eloquent but my feelings exactly.

When I owned a mini and drove past other mini's, most would beep, flick lights and acknowledge the other, don't think comparison ever came into it, just a mutual camaraderie.

I'd love an M5 and a Ferrari 458. I can't afford to run the former and I can't afford to buy the latter (let alone run it). In that respect my 335d is "poverty spec". I bought it because it meets certain criteria both as a car and financially. Compared to a lot of the cars that other members here drive around in 2 year old E92 is a shed.

Are 318/320 drivers any different? Why did they buy their cars? Did price and long-term running costs have nothing to do with it?

Can we just drop the pretence. "Poverty spec" is a turn of phrase that I used. However, I am not the only to use it and I certainly didn't invent it. Get off your moral high horses for 5 minutes and appreciate that nothing in this thread was intentionally derogatory.

EDIT:

We all know the only reason Matt got an SE with no iDrive because he's a poor bastard and couldn't afford and M-Sport with pro-nav despite what he says to the contrary
SPOT ON

A F458 would be nice, maybe 1 day

Helen - never heard it called a 'sport button' before and as for telling toxic to expect a firm ride - what's wrong with a bit of romance, it was Valentines Day yesterday?

Sorry but I am not massaging toxicnerve's ego here.

Admitted earlier that I had used the wrong terminology when it came to the term 'snobbery' shame you cannot just admit that 'Poverty Spec' is perhaps a bit of a 'slur' towards certain model/trim level owners on here also.

Not sure about that argument as the new car on finance will still depreciate on a monthly basis, also my (<<BMW Snob mode on>>paid for<<BMW Snob mode off>>) car is 5 years old now so my depreciation curve is probably a lot lower than that of a brand new E90, especially come next year when the new 3 series comes out.

Now that's cheating - I'll rig mine up to the National Grid and ace you with 10,000.
