RFT Question
I just picked up my e90 330i on Tuesday and drove it from Tampa back to Atlanta without any problems. On Friday, I noticed that the front right tire had a bubble on the side wall and after looking online, it seems like a really common problem. I checked the tire pressure and it is at 22Psi and my tire pressure monitor light is on. Is there any chance the dealership would replace this as a defective tire? I am guessing not, so the options I am looking at are either buying a used tire for $100 or just springing for a new set. The tires have 34K miles on them so I am not sure how many miles they have left on them, but they seem like they could make it for another 6-7K miles. Also, if I replace the whole set, what are your thoughts on replacing the tires with non-RFTs? Thanks in advance for any help.

You need to search, there's 102335 threads about RFT vs Non. And I doubt there the original tires still. I don't know much about the 330i but I know its not possible to get the 335i stock tires to last anywhere near that long.

They are the original tires. I bought the car from the original owner and he told me they were the original tires as did the BMW dealership in Tampa.

umm, I would replace them...those tires are probably close to not even being safe to drive on.

Getting 34k+ from OEM RFTs is completely possible. It's the performance RFTs that don't last even 20k.
Is the car CPO and did you buy it from the dealer? They might help you out, but chances are slim. You may want to take this opportunity to replace all four. Non-RFT tires makes a dramatic difference on these cars. Good luck.

When you say that non-RFTs make a dramatic difference, is this in a good way? I've heard that they can set off sensors and stuff since they aren't RFTs. Also, is it really realistic to not have a spare tire without RFTs? Thanks in advance for any help. I am obviously a n00b. |

My RE050A RFTs lasted 33.5k miles. I just switched to Michelin PS2 ZP RFTs. Best decision ever. I can't afford to get a flat at inopportune times so RFTs are good for me.
