Working thumb drives
Hey all,
I have a 2008 328i with the 6fl option. I initially used a 4 gb Sandisk cruzer which worked fine. Just copied music to it and plugged it in. I just bought a PNY 16 gb and synched it using the Windows media player option. Took a bit but not sure how long as I was watching bball. But plugged into the 6fl option, took about 90 seconds to load the directory and I was good to go. So these can be added: SanDisk Cruzer 2gb PNY 16GB Hope this helps...... |

MP3 Question
I also have the USB connection in my BMW. You guys have said that with a regular Ipod if you connect through the USB port, you must also connect through the AUX input to get sound, the USB only provides the text information. However, if you use an Ipod Shuffle, the sound will play directly through the USB w/out the AUX connected. Is this because a different type of memory (flash) is used in the Ipod Shuffle? If so, does this mean that any other MP3 player with flash memory (specifically the Cowon O2 is what I'm interested in) would connect and play directly through the USB w/out the AUX connection?
I ask b/c if you connect through AUX, you lose sound quality b/c of D/A conversion. Also, if anyone is familiar with the BBE technology used in Cowon players to enhance the quality of MP3 music, do you know if the player is connected through a USB port, rather than through use of the headphones, will that circumvent the BBE enhancements? Is BBE only operative and effective when music is played through the headphones (and I presume has passed through a D/A converter)? Thanks for any help, I appreciate it. |

So whilst you are not loosing sound quality by using the AUX port, there will be the question "are the car electronics as good as the ones used by Cowon". So you asked if the BBE is active through the USB port when connected to the car in this way. The answer I am afraid is no. |

Hi guys,
I recently got a gorgeous 07 335i convertible (which I named Cleopatra ) with a usb connection. When I hook up my 3g Iphone, however, I cannot use the car controls to change the songs (I can only use the phone's touch screen). Obviously, the sound goes out on the AUX port. Is there some kind of update to make it work with the Iphone? If not, can I simply use an USB stick instead of getting another Ipod? Thanks. |

Is this the cable that BMW charges you $400 for as an "optional" iPod USB Adaptor?
I just ordered a 2009 e92 m3 but opted not to get the iPod USB Adaptor option. This is my first BMW so I'm not aware, but do all 09 e92's come with the aux-in and usb-in even if you don't get the iPod option? Just wanted to know because it seems like the option just gives you the cable to plug into the aux-in and usb-in. If so, that means I can just buy the cable later right?

Ok I won't lie, I'm a bit confused. I plugged in my iPod touch 1st generation (3.0 firmware) into the 6FL and ipod showed up as an option on my cd player. Now it doesn't show up anymore despite unplugging and resetting the ipod. Thoughts?

Battery Drains on Ipod Nano
I am using the ycable with a Nano 4th gen ipod 6FL option.
Everything works great.I can control the player and use playlists etc and the battery charges. My only problem is that if I leave it plugged in with the car OFF the battery gets drained in a few hours. I have no idea why this is happening. I understand that the power to the y cable will cut out 20-30 min after the key is out and the car is locked. I have no idea why the darn thing will not go into standby mode after the power is cut. Something is preventing it from going to sleep. Is anyone else having this issue? Maybe its only on the 4th gen Nano. I have firmware 1.04 btw and the BMW has all the latest programming as well. Sucks to have to disconnect the Nano every time or else the battery is going to crap out very soon! |

iPod Touch 2nd Generation
I just purchased a 2008 135i convertible and it came with the ipod dongle (61.12.0.440.796) and a guy at the dealer showed me it working with his 1st gen iPod Touch. But when I connect my 2nd gen iPod Touch it doesn't work. If I disconnect the USB it will still play music, but obviously I'd like to have the dashboard controls. I called another dealer and they looked up by VIN number and said I needed part # 61.12.0.440.812 but I wasn't confident that she understood the problem and she said it'd be $74 with no chance of refund. Anyone know if this part number will definitely work with the 2nd gen iTouch?

I mentioned earlier Griffin had come out with a new adaptor that might fix the charging problem with 3G/3GS iPhones. I just received the product from Amazon and it does not charge my iPhone 3GS. The Cable Jive adaptor I have still works and charges, but is poorly made and often falls out of the iPhone at the least little nudge. |

Charging, iPod integration and bluetooth connectivity works just fine with my 3GS using the stock 6FL cable.
