3rd SES light in last 5000 miles, WTF???!!!
My 2011 335D with 56K miles just threw its THIRD SES in the last few weeks.
First time they said it was some oxygen regulator or something like that. Couple weeks and BAM, another SES. This time they replaced the injectors - all of them. I asked them to look at carbon build up and the SA told me "oh yes we will definitely check for that, it is a known issue". But they did not advise me that there was any CBU. Now just another week or two, and BAM... SES light again. Dropping it off this morning. My car has 56K miles on it. All these SES lights happened since 50K when the original warranty ran out, and my patience is really being tried here!! I'm glad I got a CPO with extended maint plan... so I have 2 years and 44K miles to work all this out. But sad as it is to say, and it breaks my heart to say it because I love my beautiful Space Gray 335D.... it is a POS where repairs are concerned, and I won't buy BMW brand again probably even though it is the ultimate driving machine. These expenses would be just KILLING me if I did not have CPO. Will post back here when I find out what is behind this SES. Would anybody switch servicing dealerships at this point, or is the third SES in 5K miles not the service department's fault? |

One thing: you're in California and you should NOT be paying the $50 CPO deductible for anything emissions related. The CA emissions warranty covers you FREE OF CHARGE for emissions-related problems until 7/70K. |

Could go either way. Its possible that they did not manage to get it fixed the first time. Also possible that this is a whole different issue. I would just go to the dealer and see what they say the issue is.

Hmm we're at 51K miles and have 'yet' to ever see the SES light. We do have the platinum BMW extended warranty. Still runs perfectly although seems as MPGs are down 10% or more. Time will tell..........

I don't think the problem is limited to any given service department. I have had mediocre service at no fewer than 5 dealerships due to their unfamiliarity with diesel. Even when they actually do care, I have to spoon feed them the technical information on the car. |

Side note, the loaded 2014 328xi is a really nice car. Who knows, maybe we will swing some sort of deal (wife would kill me). Could use the AWD.
On the other hand, when I get back behind the wheel of my 335D I will probably be fine with that too. But, the 328 surprised me how much I like it. |

Day before yesterday I got SES light number FOUR. My fourth SES light between 50K and 57K miles.
They are replacing a couple injectors again and.... walnut blasting for CBU. I have a 328D loaner this time and I would not buy it by the way. I think I will just get acquainted with a good indy shop after my CPO is over, and do the CBU cleanup every few years. Because outside that - the car is of course super great. Hope I can get a second CBU cleanup from BMW under 100K miles but I have a feeling it won't work out that way. |

Sounds like more clueless BMW diagnosis yet again.
You'll be getting a new DDE soon enough. |

My dealer has some really nice people in a lot of roles, but the SA's all seem a bit like automatons to be honest.
Anyone in Sacramento area recommend Roseville BMW over Niello BMW by any chance? I've been sticking with Niello because they've been pretty good to me where loaners are concerned, and the head of the detailing shop has hooked me up pretty good with dent repair/curb rash repair, stuff like that. But they've been pretty patronizing where CBU is concerned. I probably won't switch out - overall the dealership deserves my loyalty. They might have their hands tied by protocols. Kind of like in medicine... if you have a back nerve problem that a certain surgery "always" fixes, the doc still has to make sure you do a bunch of pointless interim steps that "hardly ever work" - just because that is the protocol. Seems like maybe it is the same with warranty service on a car. |
