E90 ANGEL EYES ONLY DONE!! fully functional, no errors!

ok, its done, and it works! first let me tell you basically what I did: I wired the angel eye lights straight to a wire that gets power with ignition, then, I was thinking about putting in a resistor on the oem wiring to make the car think that there was a bulb there so no error code would throw, but then I decided to just hook up the stock bulb holder to the original wires, and hide them inside the housings, so thats what I did-

btw, this mod will give you angel eyes only when you turn on the car, no rear lights, no corner blinker, and everything else remains fully functional

I have an E91, but I am assuming that E90 325, 335, and 328 will be able to use these instructions

of course, you will have to remove your bumper, and headlights to start

ok, the first pic is the supplies I used, all bought at Radio Shack: connectors, 5 amp fuses, fuse holder, and 18ga wire

2nd pic shows what you will have to remove to get to the hook-up wire, remove the two black covers on each side, and then remove the big black cover, the bolds holding the big cover are easy to see, there are 5 I believe, then when the big black cover is removed, there are two more bolts that must come off on each side to lift up another peice in order to get to the engine fuse box

3rd pic shows how you can lift up the black peice to get to the engine fuse box (white) and open it up, there is a sliding lock on the front and back, and a clip on each side that need to be removed, this was kind of a bitch, but I was taking my time as not to ruin anything

4th pic: once you remove the cover for the engine fuse box, you need to find a red wire with a white stripe, why did I pick that wire?? well, it was the same wire I used when I wired the angel eyes in my X3, so I tried that one first, and it worked! ok, I cut the wire away to expose the wire underneath, and I soldered my connection-

I connected the fuse holder directly to the wire in the fuse box, and then connected the other side of the fuse holder to the red wire coming from each of the lights

5th pic shows the fuse holder connected with a wire nut to the red wire from each light, and it also shows where I grounded the black wire from each light-

ok, so in simple terms, you must run a red wire from each light to the fuse holder, and hook up the fuse holder to the red wire with white stripe in the fuse box, and you must run a black wire from each light and ground it to the chasis somewhere

now, the connectors come in by the light housings, I put them in so that if I need to remove my housings, I can just disconnect them there

ok, the next post will describe how I connected the angel eyes at the housings

ok, now what I did was remove the cover on the housings for the angel eyes, and also the cover for the high and low beam bulbs

I drilled a hole in the angel eye cover, and fed the two wires through, and connected them to the angel eyes, I am using piaa(which are not bright enough for me, so I think I will switch to lux or predators)

I then fed the green and brown wires for the original angel eyes through the headlight bulb access door, and removed the black bulb holder from the light by using a dremel, then drilled two small holes in that access door, and used a wire tie to hold the bulb holder in place

the stock angel eye bulb is 10w, kind of bright, so I went to autozone and bought two 4 watt bulbs, painted them with engine enamel, and put them in

I used wire ties to run the wires, and hid them as much as I could

hopefully I have explained everything, this is the first DIY that I have ever posted anywhere, and I will be happy to answer any questions

gotta wait till it gets darker for pics, you cant really see the piaas in direct sunlight, I think I might end up going with predators or lux, I need brighter rings!

predators are CCFL Rings - which means you would need to open the headlight = Bad idea.
Lux or wait for the Predator ICE

no switch, angels come on with ignition, so if you do this mod, you cannot turn them off at any time until you turn off the ignition, and by the way, when you turn off the ignition, the angels stay on for about 10 seconds and then shut off

AMAZING job finding this out, but for a car dummy, this seems very hard to do. Def would try it if i had guts to mess around my baby

kinda OT, but is there a kit for remote activation of the angel eyes like on the e46? how about somehow linking them to the door handle lights? that would look sooo coool at night when the angels light up when you unlock your car

you know, that is possible, all you would have to do is find the wire, and feed it over to the positives from the angels, and they would also light up when the door handle lights light up, I can try this, not this weekend, but the next maybe!

So let me see if I got it...
you are powering the AEs from the wires you ran from the fuse box.
and then, you connect the original wires for the AEs to a "dummy" bulb.

have you seen the mod member Chesmu did. what he does is disables the parking lights in the corner. what you get is that it blinks only when u use the turn signal. this way, when you have the headlights on, the corners are off too. for your mod, the corners stay off only when ur headlights are not on.

this is correct, you can do the corner delete mod in addition to my mod, and then the corners will be off when the headlights are on, however, this is illegal, and I suppose you could get pulled over for this, I am thinking about doing this myself anyways!

I like MPoWeRMAN's solution. I'd add a switch in case I don't want the
AEs on.

Also, I'd rather stay legal and keep the corners on when the headlights are on.

Question:
with the hole in the AE housing cover, could moisture build up
in the headlights housing and "fog" them?

I doubt it, the hole is very small, and on the bottom, however, I was thinking about putting some silicone on mine when I switch out my angel eye lights for something brighter than piaa, that should do the trick

Well, I finally convinced myself that I had the balls to do this.
Success!!!

Thanks MPoWeRMAN as, to me, you had the best solution to this mod.
