Trying to pair Sony S tablet to car audio

Hello I am a new member here, and I was wondering if any of you guys can help me out.

I have a 2011 328ix with bluetooth hands free and satalite radio. However I do not have I-Drive. The build date of my car is December 2010.
I am trying to get my Sony Android tablet to stream audio, and sat nav directions to the car speakers. From what I have researched I should be able to, even though I do not have I-Drive. However I have not been able to get streaming audio at all. So do I need to have a cable to hook up the tablet in the aux port under the armrest? Is streaming audio a feature only for I-drive equiped models?

As a side note I have no problems at all with my phone for regular calls.
I could not get streaming audio with that either (LG Envy touch)

Thank you for any help you guys can offer.
