Can I get this seat/seat cover replaced under warranty?

I am extremely disappointed with the leather in the driver seat of my 335i coupe. I have had this car since 4/26 and have 1100 miles on it. ALREADY the leather on the seat is wrinkling and distorting. The leather seats in my S4 which I have has for 3 1/2 years looks as good as new. No comments about "You should have gotten leatherette", because vinyl seats do not belong in $45k+ BMW. Plus leatherette doesn't come in Coral red.(enough said). I am very displeased with this condition. Just wondering who else has had this problem and whether BMW would replace it under warranty. I am going to push the issue because I feel this is unacceptable. BTW, I weigh 185 lbs.

Thanks for your astute reply. PERHAPS someone else had a similar situation and can share his experience. I guess thats not too much to ask? IMHO, you could make the same reply to most of the posts on this forum.

6 weeks? As I said, the leather in my previous Audis and BMW never distorted like this especially in such a short amount of time.

it'll depends on the treatment of the leather. Some are tightly wound, so that it looks like Joan River or Cher's face, while others are "pleated" or allow room to stretch

Seriously though, if you keep on brining in your car to change the leather cover, your dealership will probably ban you and ask you to go elsewhere, I personally think there's nothing wrong with the leather depicted in your picture

OP, my wife pointed that out to me today. She asked how come my seat is so wrinkled compared to her passenger's seat. I just figured, it was my weight and that I had the lumbar support pushed out. And I weight about 185 too. I'm just going to let it be for now. If you decide to take it to the dealer, please let me know what they say.

And I just got my car less than 2 weeks ago with only 8xx miles on it.

I have a similar wrinkle like yours. It doesn't bother me. I had my seat cover replaced in my previous car (Acura TL) due to discoloration. They ended up scratching plastics all over and the seat didn't look as good.

I would say just keep the same seat cover. It doesn't look bad at all.

Looks good to me. I baby mine and it looks similar to yours. How often is your wife in the passenger side. If she were to go with you everywhere you went all the time, I think the passenger side would look the same.

I'd say that's normal wear. In my e46 I had a fold on the leather that they did take care of but that was more like fabric on top of itself.

Same thing with my seats, but I don't really care about it. If you do get it replaced for free, let me know, I'll do the same if it goes really bad.

I have the same "wrinkles" you have on my passenger seat, so just to let you know your not alone. It doesn't bother me at this time.

I see wrinkles as a good thing. I think the most luxurious cars are very wrinkled.

My advice is to never get a section of the leather replaced on a car. Only if they will replace the entire interior, which is never going to happen.

I had the dealer replace a piece leather in my truck because it was wrinkled, however the replacement section is a slightly different colour and now annoys me more than the wrinkles did. No one has ever mentioned it, but it bugs the shit out of me every time I get in the truck.

You could be starting something you wished you never had. Just my two cents!

Maybe...... Botox???

Seriously though I know what the OP is driving at. I bought a rather pricey custom leather chair about 16 weeks ago, received the first on in 8 weeks and said WTF? Seems that in my haste to get it ordered I had chosen a leather that while very high grade was also MORE fragile than Many of the other leathers I had looked at. So I went back and they are making me a new chair that SHOULD be here later this week in a heavier leather that will hold it's shape better... So I can sorta understand NOT being pleased with the wrinkles.

BUT

Nothing to do about it accept make certain you change how you are sitting to relieve the torsional load on that particular spot, and Get some good leather lotion, treatment stuff, (I'm really liking Zaino's Stuff) and treat your seats often. Should help 'em stay healthy. But leather is natural, and the wear really does add character to well maintained seats.

Probably will not have any luck getting it replaced, but all you can do is try. All they can do is say no. As someone else mentioned, due to slight inconsistencies in leather color, they may have to replace more than the seat cover to get an acceptible match.

A friend of mine took his 6 month old e46 M3 in for the same problem with wrinkling of the Nappa leather. They told him that it was normal, and not a manufactures defect, and they wouldn't replace it. I never had a problem with my Nappa. Was just very careful getting in and out and kept the seats conditioned about 2x per month. Not sure if the Dakota is more prone to wrinkling or not.

Good luck

Bring it in to the dealer and have them take a look at it.

That's nothing compared to the 3g TLs.

i just had mine replaced under warranty but mine had a crack in it...took em 2 days to switch it out. i dont believe they will do it unless there is actually some defect, and like others have said before, bring it in and ask!
