New Rubber

I put some new tyres on the 120d this morning as the originals had covered 25K miles and the back end was getting quite twitchy (especialy the other night on the way home from work with a police car on my tail).

The fronts still had a bit of life left in them but I decided to change all four Bridgestones for a set of Michelin Pilot Primacys. All the tyres swapped over without any problems and balanced up with minimal weight additions. They were pumped up to the recommended pressure of 2.1 and 2.3 bar respectively although I will check them again tomorrow as I don't trust tyre inflators.

Almost as soon as I had left the tyre fitters I noticed a fast improvement in ride quality. Although the short wheelbase one series does tend to pick up the bumps a bit easier than the three there was a distinct lack of the crashes and bangs that I was used to with the Bridgestones when I hit a pothole. I can't say what the grip levels are like yet as I only drove the few miles back to work and haven't rubbed the mould release of yet, but the next few days should give some opportunities to explore the limits. However the traction light did not flash once which has been a far too frequent occurence lately.

I would recommend the tyres to anyone with a 320 running on 16s for the ride improvement alone.

We'll see what the grip is like as they bed in.

Good stuff Chris and thanks for sharing. The Michelins on my 3 series have been a brilliant tyre both for grip and ride quality. I will definitely go for Michelins again. There is still life left in them and I've done 23k!! Its worth paying extra for quality rubber that lasts that long.
