Best Performance Gains Ever
Just wanted to share a few thoughts: I bought my 335i a few months back and loved it immediately. The sound, the look, and, my, did it have some pep down low and through the mid range. It did start to fall off pretty rapidly toward the redline, so I thought, Okay lets see what kind of gains can be made.
Before a tune or any other performance enhancing drugs, I replaced the coils, plugs, thermostat/waterpump, oil, and had a local shop walnut blast the intake. The butt dyno tells me I picked up some significant power gains from just doing regular maintenance! I'd venture a guess at a 10-20% power increase. The biggest difference was from about 5-7k RPM where the previously disappointing power drop-off was now nearly negligible. To be fair, the shop told me that the car had probably never been blasted and was pretty bad. I'm nearly positive that I was on the original plugs/coils. Moral? Before slapping on a tuner, do your maintenance first!

If you thought those gains were good, just wait until you start throwing a tune, DP's, FMIC, e85 in her

Looking to go a similar route with my car since I just purchased it. I'm sure intakes are nasty and plugs are junk as well.

You absolutely did not increase your power anywhere close to 20%

I wish more people would think like that. I get people in all the time that just bought an N54 and the first thing they want to do is a JB4. Nevermind the fact that I just found two oil leaks, it needs a water pump, spark plugs are original, blah blah blah. Kudos to you sir!

I did the Cobb first then once misfires began I replaced the plugs, coils, injectors, and got blasted. Just had no idea how old they were as I got car used from BMW Newport.

There are dynos of N54s gaining about 25whp+ in certain RPM regions from just a walnut blast...
Think about what it's doing, it's like adding a bigger inlet to the turbo or opening any bottleneck as the valves aren't flowing anywhere near OEM when caked full of deposits... Btw, pick up an MHD for like $200 and you'll gain another 75hp... lol IMO best order for mods/work: - Regular maintenance (plugs, coils, walnut blast) - Tune - LSD - FMIC - DPs
