Mod for Mod, whats faster at the strip, the i or Xi
I know I know, this isn't an argument about which car is better because that has been beaten to death numerous times.
Now I know the xi loses power due to more drivetrain lose vs the i. But from 0-60 due to awd the xi has better times. And as speeds get higher the the xi obviously loses it's advantage and the i starts to shine. Now what about at the strip? If both cars have the same mods, lets say tune, dci, dps and ic, which car will be faster? And lets assume both cars are automatics to take out the driver variable. Also, the i is not running drag radials. Will the i catch the xi before the end of the quarter mile? How much faster will an i trap vs the xi? Thanks for the answers. |

Times will be very similar, but the i sbould win if the driver knows how to properly launch. The i will trap Id say 2-3 mph more.

with identical drivers and identical power, the Xi should get to the traps faster, but at a lower speed.
........for obvious reasons that you have pointed out. which car is "faster" !?!? the i which car will get to the traps faster in the 1/8 and the 1/4mi based on TIME !?!? the Xi |

They are pretty similar. I ran an xi last year and he crossed the 1/4 mile .2 tenths ahead of me but I trapped a higher speed then he did. Eventually, the "I" will catch up.

^I wouldn't say it falls on it's face at 80mph considering the guy posting above yours said that the xi got across the line sooner while trapping somewhere north of 100mph. Yeah, the "i" will catch up and trap at a higher speed, but falling on it's face is a little dramatic don't you think?

it's not going to slam the breaks, but the i will eventually reel it in and start pulling it. |

Thanks for all the responses. I was just wondering because I'll be taking my xi to the strip this year and there are so many more timeslips and races with the i. So I figured if I could get a comparison with the xi vs i then I could determine how my xi would fair overall against other cars.

it's kind of like an STi vs a Vette.
STi will open it up by @ 3 or 4 cars, but by 90 the Vette is at it's door and will eventually start freight training the STi, HAHA !!!! ask me how i know |

Check out dragtimes.com and you will see that "Xi" 60' times aren't any better than the "i". So he is very right when he says that those numbers can be easily matched and or even beat. |

If so, that has to be pretty hard on the clutch just like launching an XI is hard on the drivetrain. |

i's are generally quicker and faster.
however, xi times are more consistent for amateur drivers. i've only been to the strip 3 times and at my third visit, i consistently hit 1.7 seconds on the 60' with all season tires with no issues. 1/4 mile i averaged at 12.45 with 12.41 being my best so far. overall, xi's are much easier to drive, but if you drive correctly, the rewards are much greater in the i. from a roll, there is no question, rwd is consistenly faster.
