I seriously think my 335i will need to be fully torn down...

Cliffs

07 E92 335i coupe with 39K miles
- Car dies every night for no reason (Started two weeks ago)
- Took it to dealership twice
- Both times they said that problem is fixed
- But, voila car dies again after inactive for a few hours
- Replicated it once but couldnt figure out what caused it

And now, when I say dies, I mean COMPLETELY dead..no lights, no noises, NOTHING. Dealership says battery is completely fine. They have it now again and they even have their senior foreman manager looking at it. So far, they have no idea wtf is going on except for taking the whole car apart to identify the problem. Think I might start crying ((. Baby even got new shoes ((

Only blessing is that I bought the extended platinum warranty...

Before throwing a $900 alternator at it, they should find the intermittent IBS or other electrical problem.

Either way, I assume the OP has a decent loaner to drive while his car is being fixed.

You may have something drawing power like a bad starter. However, sounds like an alternator to me.

Not sure that it is your case, but current drain can be a pain to fix.

Mine has been two times a full week before they found the driver's door lock to be the culprit. The car didn't even have 3000 miles.

Twenty years ago, my wife's Nissan was involved in a front accident and repaired. Intermittently (and never at the garage) the car refused to start. It went on for almost 6 month. Invoices kept piling up, 1000$ with no cure. Until the insurance company authorized the replacement of major harnesses. Possibly one was seriously pinched in the collision although nothing was apparent. What a nightmare it was.

Name of extended warranty and how much did you pay for it? A lot of members ask about which ones to get etc. I am glad you had a happy ending!

If no codes are being thrown use Chevron Techron fuel injector cleaner (concentrate). It solves rpm fluctuating upon cold start-up. Also, for most BMW problems start off by scanning your car with the Peake Research Tool. It contains the actual BMW codes. If you want to register a newly installed battery for free (just buy a $10 cable) and google/download BMWLogger

I got the BMW Platinum Extended Warranty and paid 3500 to extend it 3 more years about two months ago. So it almost paid for itself in two months lol

2007 was a bad year for the 335. Sorry to hear about your troubles. Good news is 2011 335s are damn near flawless from what I hear. Can anyone confirm? I wouldn't know, because I would never own one- maybe others can chime in.

Come back in 5 years and I would like to see if your theory is true. 2011's are flawless because it is 2011.

This is exactly what's going on with mine. It's the b cable that connects to the back of the fuse box. When it happens I can reach behind the fusebox and wiggle the wire and it will make the car work. I have some info from another member that will help you SA diagnose it if this happens to anyone else.

It seems to be a newly discovered issue and a lot of techs are not familar with it. Creating painful trips to the dealership over and over.

BMW seriously needs to put out an SB on this. $3000 for their bad wiring is not right even if your extended warranty covers it.

Glad you got this figured out! It took me almost 4 weeks of my own trouble shooting to figure mine out.

P.S. - if anyone else experiences this issue hit me up and I can tell you how to get your car started in less than a minute.

N55's are already reporting HPFP failures in less than 3000 miles

Hey mate - I'm having the exact same random issue right now. No electrical no nothing. Going to have a go and wiggle the b+ cable behind the junction box but have you got any tips?

It's also +100 degrees where I am and this "intermittent issue" is a bit annoying to have in the back of your mind argh.

Did you end up getting a final resolution for it?

Thanks

Benny, the OP was las active in 2012. But if by "junction box" you mean fuse block behind the glove box, you are on the right track. The battery cable fault is a known problem on early 3 series. It was part of a recall campaign here in the states. Check out the service bulletin I've attached below
