Mirror Replacement Difficulty
Replacing mirror on '07 328i sedan. Original mirror the basic - no auto dim, no homelink, no compass. Have mirror from '07 X5 with autodim, homelink, and hidden compass.
Easy removal of original mirror as per DIY. Electrical connector fits fine, but the X5 mirror won't mount up to the windshield. Original mirror has a smooth back with three screws holding a small plate. X5 mirror has some protruding metal nubs (that are probably the reason the mirror won't attach.) It starts like it will attach and then rounds off. Anyone solved this one? |

Got it In
Thanks for the reply - tried again, based on your info and the mirror did seat on the attachment - now to see if the homelink/compass can be brought on line. I was worried about nicking something on the replacement, so was glad to hear you had success - without changing anything.

if your original mirror did not have autodim, homelink, etc., you'll need to install the retrofit wire to get those features to work with the X5 mirror. There is a guide in the DIY section, and the wire you need is about $20 or so from Tischer.
