Strut Nut Help!

So I was taking my struts off my E92 and didn't realize that the upper mount had tabs to hold the nut down. So I broke off the top part of the strut. (look at pic)

My question is....besides drilling out the nut, is there any other way I can get this nut off!?

I'm confused which part is broken, the foam/metal mount (where the nut stays part of it) or the threaded portion of the shock piston?

the threaded portion there is a 6mm hex thats supposed to be on top...thats the one i broke. You use that to hold the rod from spinning

Seriously!? Have you tried it before.....I guess it wouldn't hurt if drilling is what I'm considering lol.

Thanks

You dont have to break off the tabs. Quickest way to take the nut off is to vice grip on the strut tube and use an impact gun to shoot the nut off. Hex/wrench method works too but sometimes get stripped..

Sweet! yea I didn't break the tab's off, I just forgot to lift them--since they were folded down to secure the nut. I'll give this a try and go from there.

Thanks broz

That is the rear shock. The nut does not appear to be broken.

The nut wasn't broken it was the top hex that you use to stop the strut from spinning when you take off the nut.

An air ratchet and another pair of hands holding the shock shaft will get the nut off easily.

Dremmel a groove in the top, use a flathead screwdriver to keep it from spinning.

Yea I was thinking about that if the impact and swivel didn't work.
