Aluminum Trim too frackin' soft!

So I just noticed the trim on the driver's door has about 40 tiny dents...and the passenger door about 5...obviously form the seatbelt....arrggh..for a guy who likes to keep his car pristine..this really pi55es me off! Defective materials I'm thinking!

Raise the seatbelt by moving the clip on the belt itself.

Where were you when I took delivery...?

I realize aluminum is soft...maybe they should have used the alu/mag scraps from the block...

It must be happening when I take the belt off. Nothing better than taking the belt off in the Bimmer...

I have couple of minor marks on my drivers side trim. I brushed my wedding band against it a few times.

BMW should clear coat the aluminum trim so the metal doesn't get scratched. MB has a coating on their metal trims. BMWs wood trim is behind a thick coat of something (epoxy/plastic?). Or maybe BMW could use the same technology as house door hardware. My front door has scratch resistant handles produced under some electrically charged process.

If it had a coating, everyone complains it looks fake...

yeah, mine has a few scratches in it too, it isnt THE most durable material for the task at hand.

It's "brushed" aluminum right?
So lets find out what is used exactly to "brush" it.
If we could get that then we should be able to brush out any minor scratches, and keep a uniform finish.

Obviously it wont help if it's dented, unless you could remove the trim and tap it out.

Anyone know whats used in the "brushed" process?

Yea, keep that attitude up just to make sure BMW pulls aluminum as an option because some people don't know how to use the seat belt keepers AND want to blame everyone else for their own ignorance.
