How safe are BOV's on 335i or 335XI???
I have a HKS ssq blow of valve, I was going to install it my STi but didn't because STi's required a tune for it so the car can run smoothly.
I have a 08 335xi 6 speed manual, and want to buy a charge pipe and install this BOV, will it make my car run funny w/o being tuned? btw my car is a 100% stock. I just miss having that whooshing sound......I know its the ricer in me LOL! Please gimme feedback

No waste gates and blow off valves are 2 different things.....the Bov can be recirculating or blow through (realeases turbo charge air into the atmosphere) thus making the loud "whoooosh" sound.

I believe STI's need to tune for BOV's because they use a MAF based system that reintroduces bypassed air that has already been metered by the MAF. Since N54's use a MAP system, a custom tune isn't required for BOV use..

The car already has a 2 BOV type things that release the pressure back into the charge pipe. If you want just unplug the diverter hoses and put a plug on the chsrgepipe and you got your woosh noise

no damage or problems with BOV or DV's, as long as they don't leak and work properly. You can choose to re-use hot air or get rid of it. I prefer to get rid of it (and a little bit of oil too, as I have noticed on the underside of my hood lol... and yes, I have an OCC as well).

Can you really just pull the recirc tubes off the front of the stock bov's and let then breathe to atmosphere? And of course, cap the intake pipe holes. What do the stock bov's sound like. I have a Tial 50 bov on my 800 whp Honda s2000 and I love the sound of having a bov. I just didn't think it would be wise to do it on the 335i because of emissions and may throw a code or something.

Mines popped off after the first test drive after installation... it was clearly my fault (clamp wasn't on tight enough where it connects to the elbow to the intercooler piping ). After I made it home, I put it back in place and tighten it as much as possible. Haven't had a problem yet, and it's been months.

You dont need any tuning for this vehicle to have a BOV.
We offer Evolution Racewerks or ETS Charge Pipes which can utilize your HKS Bov. Just use the options menu to select HKS Flange. Any questions, let me know. -Edit, Wow, Old thread revival? |

I'm interested in this. I actually like the HKS high pitch sound. I dont really need anymore power. I'm more concerned if the BOV and charge pipe can be removed quickly and reverted back to stock if I have to take it to the shop. (extended warranty)

Yes. Chargepipe takes some time the first go, but once you know the steps it's very simple.
