European Delivery 10% Insurance Deductible on Theft??

Just got my ED package.

It says on the first page that there is a 10% deductible (based on the value of the car) if it is stolen even in so called Western European countries. This would mean I would lose $5K or so if my car was stolen in Europe?

Is there GAP insurance coverage that can be purchased?

There's only a 10% deductible if you choose to not have BMW replace the vehicle that was stolen. Also, there is no coverage if you can't produce all the documentation and keys you were issued. I suspect that in the case of a bona fide carjacking, that requirement might be able to be relaxed a bit.

That would be ok for sure. I'll have to check the wording in the doc set I received. I am not sure it mentioned - "if you don't replace with a new BMW". Did the final documentation say that when you went through this in May?

Thanks MrB!

As MrBelk has said, it's only if you dont want to go with another BMW. Otherwise, everything is covered (and I do mean everything). It's such a great peace of mind for us EDers.

It's SOP and I don't think anyone's had an issue with their car being stolen in Europe yet, at least, I haven't read of one yet.

I think the chances are higher that your car gets stolen back home then in Europe.

i think the ED program takes account the european countries that you most likely won't run into problems with (western europe)

Quick update:

Apparently a lease covers the gap. And gap coverage can be purchased for a buy which is what I will probably do.

Not quite confirmed but will let folks know when I find out when I find out the specifics.

I believe Gap is through BMWFS when the car is in the US.

While the car is still in Europe, it's covered through the ED insurance through Alliance.

No US gap coverage is going to cover you while the car is still in Europe.
