Xylene as an octane booster...
Hey everyone i went down to Sherwin Williams and bought a Gallon of Xylene. I the forum and found some thread that people said "just add Xylene" but no one actually said " I used Xylene."
I wanted to know if anyone actually used Xylene? Personal experience. How much of an Octane boost is it?? JB3 (version 1.3 ) guys that have tried Xylene did u try map8 with it? And please don't tell me just buy Race gas. Cuz if race gas was in abundance and close I would have either bought it already or obviously and i live in an apartment complex in the middle of town where i really dont have the storage space for a 55 Gallon Drum of Race gas. Any feedback would be appreciated. Thanks in advance guys.

I have added Toluene which is similar to Xylene. Toluene is often preferred as it has historically been less expensive and is often used in the refineries to rasie the octane rating of fuel.
But Xylene will work too. Just limit the frequency and concentration as they can eat away at seals over time when too high of concentration and frequencies occur. |

thanks. i was gonna add 1 gallon of it to about 4-5 gallons of 93 octane to achieve somewhere around a 96-98 octane range. Try out a race map.

Don't go that crazy. That is too high of a concentration. Most use it to bump up from 93 to 94 - 95. If you want close to 100, purchase racing fuel. 1 gallon (2 tops) per a full tank is the most I would ever run.

That's about perfect. Xylene and toluene are chemically rather similar, altho for safety considerations you want to keep the xylene to around 20% as an additive.
