I heard from few local tire shops that the 2010 3 series do not have TPMS on each wheel, is that true?

No - Not true.

They still have individual tpms sensors, but they are different from previous model years 07-09. Older sensors won't work with the 2010 model receiver. The new ones are more expensive, of course.

Guys, I just gone to a local BMW dealer and they said all the 10+ E9x do not come with TPMS mounted on each wheels unlike the earlier models. The sensors are now located in the car... and they even take apart my old wheels to prove it is not there.... LOL! So the tire shops are correct...

Seriously, how do you suppose a "car mounted" sensor could possibly tell what the tire pressures are??? .


In fact, what happened starting with 2010 is that the RECEIVER for the TPMS is now a single centrally mounted reciever, rather than multiple fender mounted devices used in 2009 and prior years. The SENSOR is still mounted in the tire (on the valve stem) and is different (and more expensive) than prior sensors. There have been a number of various forum threads speculating on the reason, the most common hunch is that the overall system cost is less for BMW, due to eliminating the multiple receivers. Unfortunately for wheel swappers, the sensors themselves cost about double what the older ones did

Just go to ANY BMW parts seller's web site, or to Tirerack, for example, to see the difference in the part numbers and prices.

If this is what your local BMW dealer is telling you...I'd find someplace else to work on your car, pronto!

he is in Asia, some models dont have TPMS

the TPMS system is mainly used in the US for compliance with US law.
the RoW probably uses FTM.

Ah, didn't realize this. Do they stick those people with runflats, too? REALLY wouldn't want to have runflats and no TPMS!

This info is correct. BMW has a tsb about this. Their are new sensors required for cars made after 9/09. I have snow tires and rims from my 07 335 with Tpms sensors installed. Just bought new sensors from my BMW dealer. He showed me the different part numbers and how the system works. Only one receiver now not 4 as before. The TSB clearly states old sensors will NOT work with the new system. Since my new car is a 2011 335, it cost me for new sensors+ installation
